I think I'm going to paimt it up like a Tediore gun from Borderlands, or an older PC case, with lots of greys and beiges along with exposed dull metal bits underneath the armor, just to lean into the 'mass produced' angle. I'm excited to see what you come up with because he's a little guy with a lot of possibilities.

As for the group build, what if we decided on a base 30MM model, like the Portnova or the Alto, along with another kit or part pack of your own choosing, and we just see what everyone comes up with from modifying the same base? Considering the options there's a lot of possibility and potential.

I think just "A 30MM" kit would be better for a base, cause you gotta account for local availability remember.

Who is the primary designator of toyness? If the parent calls it a toy, does that stick? Or is the life of toys predicated on the subconscious desires of children and the object's metaphysical relationship to them?

Disclaimer: I haven't seen Toy Story 4 and the spork might answer this. Also Toy Story is an Evangelion reboot.

Very slick. It looks like it should come out of the box that way. Also, where did you get the LED kit from? That's a really useful way to avoid having to mod wires/switches outside of the kit.

Well for Gunplas, it's a scale model in the box, and while you're building it, and if you very carefully immediately place it on the shelf it stays a model, but if you woosh it around just once, bam: toy.

Went to the nearby nerdery to see if they had any 30mm kits just in case, and alas, not a single one. Might have to take all my current ones apart and see if I can get inspired to build something cool out of all of them together. In the meantime, they finally got in the Battlogue kits. Didn't have any of the ones I really wanted but I picked up the Blazing Gundam because I make good use of its legs in the dumb Gunpla gacha phone game I am probably the only person here still playing.

Not the only one.

Anyway, the most disappointing thing about the Asmoday isn't that it has a sticker situation as bad as the Gusion (much worse than your average IBO kit), but that it costs more than any of the others by around five bucks. I know inflation and all, but for the same price, you could get Barbatos Lupus and a Geirail for it to crush.

In is HobbyCo a legit store to buy from, the answer is yes. They occasionally have decent pricing, I got the perfect grade rx78 last year for $390 on sale. Where they let themselves down is they are slow to post, from order to shipping it can take 5 to 7 days. (Lu's the usual Australia problem of shipping costs too much and Auspost takes too long)

Not sure where you are in Australia, as there are a few other options as well. If you're capital city based I think all the majors have at least 1 Gundam specialist store as well.

BBTS are reliable - one of the oldest robot toy vendors on the internet, I was buying Transformers poo poo there back in the early/mid 2000s, and still do - but they are not fast. I see the Hi-nu is scheduled to arrive there in "April" and I would not be at all surprised if you got the invoice sometime in May.

Don't give money to scalpers unless there's literally no other choice, like buying concert tickets.

A heads up about BBTS: I placed orders with them for “guaranteed pre order” items last July with an ETA of August. As of January they pushed their ETA out to April and I finally cancelled and ordered from Newtype.

Lots of people speak well of them, however I had nothing but issues, they never contacted me about pushing back ETAs, even after months, and I wouldn’t trust their ETA system as far as I could throw them.

Maybe eventually I would have gotten the stuff I ordered, but after 6 months of their nonsense, I didn’t have patience for it anymore.

I’d either preorder from USAGundamStore and get the 10% off (plus they have the other accessory kits if you were interested) or else tap the heart on Newtype’s store and you’ll get an email when it’s being restocked.

Nothing yet, if ever. It's on the big list of kits that they could easily make any time they want but meh, the injection molders are busy making our next super successful franchise. Oh what's that? Nobody bought it? Not a single one? Hmm, well time to think of a new super successful franchise.

Doubly so now that covid has tanked their operations and they appear to be putting what little resources they have into their next big things. (Seriously Bandai, those Kyokai Senki kits are gonna rot before they sell out, just put them in the big eco-pla blender with all the leftover GalGun stock)

I've seen a few, but I've got multiple dedicated model kit shops in driving distance. And pretty much everything is selling these days. It's harder to find a kit that stays on shelves longterm than the alternative. When production is limited, people take what they can get.

I'd say another big complication at the moment is that Bandai's got contracts with Target. A lot of production is taken by the Breaker Battlogue kits, since those are getting wide US release, so there's less space at the factory for general purpose production.

At my local comic shop the only model kits that have hung around for very long are some of the kits for the new Zoids show, the XI/Penelope box, the Ultraman kits, and the dozens of 30MM add-on kits that the store accidentally bought when they thought they were ordering one of each kit but were actually ordering one box of each kit.

There's some legit interesting designs, I'm just hoping they're not gonna trip and fall into the same hole the first season of IBO did with its kits with a bloat of Graze Brady variants glutting up the line, considering the USA faction becoming more dominant in the second season and we're up to four of the drat things already.

That's interesting.

Gun Girl makes sense, basically. It was a weird line, and the rollout was small enough that it couldn't really be canned before they finished. But Kyokai Senki has been running long enough with the split cour setup that I'd expect at least some measures to reduce unsold stock. Are we talking massive piles of first wave stuff, or just slower sales for recent releases? Or are grunts selling and main suits sitting?

I've seen massive piles of even popular kits at times, so I know anecdotes aren't data, but if I can't get full on data, more detailed anecdotes would be handy.

Call or email them. They’ve always been good about getting back to me when I reached out. I’ve contacted them regarding my Hi-Nu taking a while to ship after they received it (they had hundreds of preorders) and when a shipment I ordered was delayed because one kit out of the 5 wasn’t received on an order from Japan. They split the shipment and didn’t charge me twice for shipping.

I generally only recommend them because of the flat 10% off you can get with them. Newtype is my go-to. I’ve never had anything but positive experiences with them. USAGS has generally not been terrible, but because I’m on opposite diagonal of the country from them, shipping sucks.
