I don't get bad vibes either, but I mostly watch LGR because he just seems like a really decent guy. His enthusiasm for the tech he looks at really comes through in his videos. DistroTube is a channel I've been watching recently because he has a lot of great information about Linux. DT will occasionally stray into complaining about "cancel culture" but my policy is to ignore those and just pay attention to the Linux content. Otherwise, he seems like an OK dude.

I am watching Company Man's video on Gateway, and just suddenly remembered for the first time in 25 years the time I was talking to a Gateway customer service guy and during a lull in the conversation (probably reinstalling Windows 95) he overheard me talking to my other buddy in the room about IRC, and he told me to go into #hottub and tell them that I was on the phone with "Big Jack" or something like that. Equally interesting to the fact that I absolutely remember doing it is that I have no memory of what happened as a result. Equally likely I was horrified and left or it was so incredibly boring I never thought of it again Maybe I am mistaken, as I have not talked to any tech support on the phone since like 2006, but I feel like a support person having that kind of conversation with a customer is as much a tech relic as anything else in this thread now

After watching his videos on AST Research, there might have been a decent chance my dad or I had the honor of talking to the Ate-poo poo-Guy regarding either the Tandy 1000 or the AST 486 I had. I also might have talked to Metal Jesus because I was one of the people stupid enough to buy Outpost.

Got Browservice working well! I could've sworn someone made a more SA-focused HTTP proxy but I don't remember who or what thread. Also no idea if anyone else in this thread even has a Libretto but I've made a new fansite/resource site. It took me forever to find some of the stuff on there so I decided to compile everything into one place. Also has a decent page for various services for getting internet stuff going on vintage PCs. libretto.rocks I don't like to talk about the Phoenix project for AIM because it's run by InfoWars shitholes, but there's a really good unrelated MSN Messenger service out called escargot (they're working on their own AIM backend as well): https://escargot.chat e: Also, want to recommend this VGA capture card: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001335071572.html Image is a bit oversharpened and crunchy, but for $25 it's a great deal. Though it does have a hilarious USB A-to-A input. Though to be clear, the above screenshot wasn't taken on it, but this one was Kazy has a new favorite as of 18:03 on Apr 19, 2022 |

I have https://github.com/drasticactions/Awful.OldWeb which I haven't touched in forever, since I was trying various ways to make it more generic. Basically, while I like the Browservice thing for what it's trying to do, I don't want the "modern" web on old browsers, I want to get new content running natively as intended. At some point I'll actually launch something again, once I can figure out what the base level service actually is and what platforms I wanna target, lol.
