Kinda seems like a strong bow gearset really wants the Project Nemesis helm, which is ironic given that PN requires a strong bow build

Got a barbarian life up to 30 and need to start raiding with it. Ravager was real fun to level with but half the procs in it are just flat out broken, so I ended up switching into berserker for endgame. Turns out I also misread the Adrenaline epic strike in fury of the wild- i read "increases your threat" as aggro instead of critical range

I'm still hoping we can get Mark Of Death done, I really could use a litany.

Is there a trick to getting DDO to run the 64bit bit client through Steam? I have a new SSD and am rearranging some stuff, and just lost a few of my Steam favorite installs. I had DDO running through Steam but could never get the 64bit version to work, and since I'm reinstalling as we speak just wanted to know if there is a workaround or some reason my old install never worked with x64, but ran hundreds of hours on the 32bit client with DirectX 11/Ultra. I don't mind redownloading, but my 4G LTE modem, while not DSL-slow, reinstalling a 10+ GB game isn't trivial. If there is some way to force the x64 version from the start (if even possible? I haven't seen anything from the last couple of years on the official DDO forums), I would appreciate the heads-up! I'm not married to the Steam Launcher-version, either, it's just easy to have it with my other games. If you folks know of issues or even just "It only runs x64 via stand-alone client, dummy!" I'd like to know. I can post system specs if needed, if that is necessary. I'm running fully updated Win11 and fully up to date Steam client. Thanks in advance!

You can try to run it from the launcher I think. Options - and then you can choose from 64/32 and legacy if I remember correctly. Edit. I think I had some problems trying to run 64-bit that were related to NVIDIA-card. Found a fix for that on the official forums. Jorgos Nuuh fucked around with this message at 14:34 on Apr 10, 2022 |

Yeah, when I say "Steam" I mean I access it from clicking "Play" on the Steam client...all that does is open the DDO launcher itself. But in the options on the actual launcher, if I click the x64 radio button the game simply won't launch at all! It logs in, server selects, and nothing happens. Ever. If I click the 32-bit client, the game loads and plays no trouble. I do have an nvidia card, though, so I'll try and flex my Google-fu a little harder on the official forums. Thanks for the feedback!

In all fairness, I played two hours this morning on the 32bit client with zero issues (again)...just really curious because Win11 is x64-only, and I wonder what tomfoolery is going on with a bog-standard installation of an old game. Maybe it's my monitor(s) or something. To be clear---I can play, just didn't know if I was the only one seeing this. Apparently, I'm not!

Wow yea thats annoying. Yea i'm also on windows 10 and I use the standalone (non-steam) client in 64bit mode. Glad it isn't really causing a problem though. If it does, you might have to try the client downloaded from their website.

I haven't done gatekeepers arc yet this life (nor sharn p2, feywild and saltmarsh), so would be up for running those with you if I'm online and you need an extra chest puller. Planar eyes quests are kind of annoying, is it Brightgaze you're after?

I have no idea, your best bet is likely to submit a ticket to https://help.standingstonegames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and provide any information you remember. I will note that the support is glacially slow though so it will prob take them like 2-4 weeks to respond

I started playing this last week with a few friends who had never played before either. We've been doing three- or four-person groups (Bear Druid, Cleric, Paladin, and sometimes Wizard) and haven't had a problem with any of the dungeon difficulty up to level 5. Do we get to a point where we'll really need a party of six to proceed?

As mentioned trapping is helpful (though with adequate raise dead you can fake it lol), but also it depends on what difficulty you run- normal is absurdly easy while elite or low reaper does require a bit of work, though even then it depends on your gear and build. That said 2x tough melee, plus healer and crowd control is a pretty solid parry setuo

WhiteHowler posted:I started playing this last week with a few friends who had never played before either. Yea, like everyone else said you should be fine. As mentioned if its too easy for you, you might have one person in the group either sub or buy the thing for points in the ddo store that lets you open on harder difficulties. Usually, the ability to open quests on harder difficulties is granted after your first life for free but with your group normal is prob a snooze.

All of the dungeons so far have been ridiculously easy, until we got to Vile Apothecary. That was actually kind of tricky, since there are tons of casters, lots of traps, and only one shrine in a very long dungeon. We got through it, but things got a little dicey when everyone was low on spell points before we found the shrine.

Yeah that's one of the trickiest quests in that level range. The game does get a bit tougher as it goes, especially if your character isn't great, but normal remains pretty easy as long as your damage keeps up

jumped in on an old account from ~2008? when the game went f2p. I couldn't figure out my original account and support hadn't gotten back to me. I have a lvl3 ranger and lvl 2 cleric (lol) on khyber apparently. I had a bunch of poo poo in my inventory but I kinda wanted to try a different class or maybe from lvl1 just because my characters in the middle of some quest lines or something and everything is kinda overwhelming. Like the action point... talent tree? or whatever it is. Also haven't really hosed with 3.5 (though i guess the connection is probably pretty tenuous at this point?) in a good 12 years so yeah, just lost. Whats cool that I should try? can I unlock classes with VIP? is it worth it? sad I missed whatever the big thing was in february? I think? I popped in this thread back then and people seemed happy with a bunch of free stuff or something. Tabletops fucked around with this message at 02:43 on Apr 23, 2022 |

Most classes and races are free now, and the few that aren't are relatively easy to unlock. This link has a bunch of pretty decent first life builds, as well as links to older ones that are usually still okay but might need some work (notably they completely redid leveling from 20 to 30). Depends on what archetype you're interested in- personally I feel like of my lives so far caster cleric was probably the smoothest and easiest E: checking it out again, seems like the only 100% first life F2P builds are still the first three; of them Barbarian is also very fun and smooth to level but you might want to respec a bit at cap, Rogue is fun and trapping is good if you can keep up with the trap DCs but pretty squishy StashAugustine fucked around with this message at 02:15 on Apr 23, 2022 |

I like the idea of the inquisitive (dual wield crossbow??) but not sure what it is but have seen posts on reddit and what not talking it up. also a knife fighter? or something?

Inquisitive and Vistani Knife fighter are "universal enhancement trees"- basically abilities that any class can pick from. The problem is that they're both not strictly f2p. If you have the Masterminds of Sharn and Ravenloft expansions, respectively, they're very easy to unlock at least. (You can also buy them outright but I think you're probably better off buying the expansion eventually and unlocking then instead.) I havent played warlock yet but it does sound pretty good for leveling from what I hear, probably gonna be next in a life or two

Tabletops posted:is there just a ... normal game I can buy to get all the xpac stuff? or do I have to piecemeal everything through the store for $9000 or whatever Tldr: play a while before making a decision, consider subbing, pick up an expansion or two if you want and can't wait for a sale. Okay so here's where the nature of the game as a 16 year old f2p game comes in, the answer being "sort of." Basically there's two groups of content in the game, short "adventure packs" and larger expansions. Adventure packs are available for individual purchase (possibly the most bullshit nickel and dime in the game) but are also free to subscribers; on top of that they gave away all the current ones both in 2020 and again last year, and have mentioned that they're strongly considering doing it again (or even making it permanent.) There are also a few major expansion packs (which are usually where the universal enhancement trees are unlocked.) If you just want to drop cash on the game I'd probably start there- Sharn, Feywild, or the "trove" with three old expansions (including Ravenloft) are probably your best bets. That said they might go on sale during the summer as well. (Also should be noted you get a small but steady drip of store currency as you play at least.) In any case, I think theres probably enough content in the game to get a first life character to about 10 or so which should let you get a feel for the game and how much you're willing to spend
