Does anyone here consider their planned faction alignment when it comes to picking your primary weapon skill? For example, for me it feels weird to pick NCR or Legion when I'm doing an Energy Weapons run. It's just nice to use an arsenal that fits with what your faction favors.

I did in my first couple playthroughs before the DLC came out After OWB and Lonesome Road though I just kinda do whatever

Killing Caesar is a pretty bad idea if you're trying for an optimal outcome for the wasteland. If you're gonna do it then make sure you blast the fort with Helios One. Really show the lack in perspective in abandoning technology

Same I learned enough to abuse a win like 30% of the time and ground it out watching videos on 2nd monitor. Caravan is intriguing but very unintuitive.

It's a bit of fun to come from behind to win with a few clutch kings and jacks but the rules need to be front and center and not relegated to a note.

The 360 version of New Vegas came with instructions for Caravan in the handbook. I've actually played it with another human being and it's a fun card game, it's unfortunate that the AI is so bad that it becomes trivially easy once you know the rules.

I've watched several videos on how to play Caravan and have no idea how to. I got the achievements on 360, even though I'm not sure how. IIRC, I found something that worked and just kept repeating it until they unlocked.

I'm convinced it's because the background of the table that you play on makes the whole game ugly and hard to read. Cards and text are the same shade as the table with like no shadow underneath them. That plus a really terrible interface but at least you can learn the buttons- you can't as easily get rid of that poo brown yet neon glowing table you and Ringo throw down on. edit:  There's just such a variety of shades, it's like the bristol stool chart! The idea of cards being scavenged from different decks is a really nice design choice, but I think its one of the few elements of the game that never clicked with me. I'd rather them have added a few of the cut for time features instead.

Caravan is quite easy to play... but it isn't very fun, and there is literally no other point to ever play it than for fun, so yeah, once I won like two games I never bothered again. If they wanted to make players interested in Caravan they should have made more interactions around it, as well as make the collectible aspect more pronounced, like with Gwent in The Witcher where every player has a short dialogue to set up the game, there are some tourneys etc. Which I understand isn't feasible for a game that was developed on a draconic timer, but then why even include it at all.

I like the idea of the Fallout world picturing a courier that takes constant dives on Caravan and ends up spreading all of their casino earned riches throughout the Mojave, but in reality they just don't know how to play it and keep losing.

When first playing NV, I figured out a way to win caravan every time against the AI, and I’m not that smart, so that indicates it’s not that great a game. On recent replay I completely forgot how to play though and realized I didn’t need the free money from engaging with it, so I skipped out on it.

You either know the rules to Caravan so you win every time, or you don't so you don't play. Caravan is a weird game with a bunch of tricky plays and I'm sure someone could come up with a perfect deck and then a meta or something if it were real. But it's a lot of memorization of card powers and none of it matters anyway because the Caravan AI is abysmal. You can beat anyone every time with a basic understanding of the rules because it seems like they didn't read the rule book either and are just doing moves at random.
