italian quid posted:Find a local coffee roaster and stop buying trash at grocery stores Have we had a coffee derail yet? Because I'm currently using a Baratza Encore grinder for my coffee, and then either drinking Aeropress (most mornings) or drip (if we need to make a lot of coffee). Occasionally I'll use a Moka pot. I'm thinking of getting in to making espresso, but I wonder if I'll actually spend the time to use the machine during the week.

Oh yeah, I've looked at the Niche as well, but I'm not sure if it'd be wasted for Aeropress? Here's my aeropress method: 1. Heat water to 200F in Bonavita kettle 2. Two scoops of whole beans in to Encore, grind on like 11. 3. Inverted aeropress, put grinds in to Aeropress 4. Pour in water up to about the top, 2 minutes brewing. 5. Press directly in to mug, fill the rest of my 16 oz mug with hot water. Am I loving it up? your friend wicka posted:Hell yeah coffee derail. I also have a Baratza Encore, I love it. I have a scale to weigh everything out but generally for the aeropress I'll do 14g coffee to 250g water, put the plunger in so it seals up, give it a quick shake and then let it sit for 2 and a half minutes then press through. I know a ton of people do the inverted thing with the aero press but I've never had any noticeable water pass through doing it normally so 🤷🏼♂️

I tell people I put peaberry beans in my expensive combination grinder/coffee machine, but I really put my peaberry beans in a burr grinder and £5 cafetière because the big machine is a pain in the arse to clean and has this loving stupid health and safety timer no one asked for or wants, which turns the hot plate off after 2 hours. My nan god bless her is still alive and kicking at 95 made a living will in her 80s - gave away all her stuff to prevent the tax man/nursing home getting it and I got given her insane Denby collection, £85 for the chuffing cafetière in "natural canvas" https://www.denbypottery.com/naturalcanvas only it's probably worth more now to collectors because it's been out of stock for several years. Help I can't afford electricity, I cry as I serve salad from my £45 serving bowl.

What they do is buy up everything, no matter the quality, then dark roast the living crap out of it so it all tastes the same. Coffee habits are just ritual that make the day easier to start. The general beans, temp and brewing method is enough. Everything else is just extra for fun. I think buying freshly roasted beans and using a burr grinder makes obviously better coffee but I don't think I'm noticing a difference between like 50g and 52g or whatever. You can probably get close enough just by scooping it.
