This weekend I was doing BGA gaming, so me and two others played Similo. (It's Premium only, sorry.) It's similar to Codenames Pictures except the art is not abstract, but something specific. We played with the Fables set so each card was a fairy tale character, but there are others like Animals and Historical Figures. 16 are laid out and 1 is the secret character. The hint giver takes some of the remaining cards and places them vertical to indicate the character is similar, or vertically to indicate that the character is dissimilar, but otherwise will say nothing. So, perhaps the secret character is The Giant, so you pick Tinkerbell because she is small. The guessers will eliminate one character from the roster based on that hint, and so long as they don't eliminate the secret character, they game continues with another hint. The later rounds involve removing 2, 3, 4, and then 1 last character. Absolutely dead simple, could play this with essentially anyone, but we had a perfectly nice time with it. One advantage of it being so small and so modular is that you can mix things up. You could deal out Fable characters, but give the clue giver the deck of Historical Figures instead. Even the BGA implementation will let you do this, which sounds fun, though we didn't try it yet. Any other goons played it? This feels like something that you might be able to get even extremely reticent people to try.

The way I look at it is that extras give you an edge over other listings, but buyers know that you’re not going to be able to move most extras by themselves, so don’t expect a huge premium.

The target audience is folks who work adjacent to tech and programming who are insecure in their knowledge of the systems they interface with everyday. There are two guys who used to talk crypto a lot. Since I host, I added crypto to the forbidden topics list.

I don't particularly disagree with what most people are saying, but I'm starting to think we should have a separate thread to talk about actual board games, if people want this to be the board game politics thread. Or maybe stop establishing "official thread opinions" and moderating people for wrongthink.

The solution to KS is just back games for a $1 to gain access to the pledge manager. More money then goes directly to the devs KS is the problem. Not the games/developers/companoes using it as their crowdfunding platform.ap It's starting to look like companies are slowly moving away from KS onto other platforms, but Rome wasn't built in a day and KS still currently provides the most bang for your buck in terms of coverage and amount of pledges. Like the conversation honestly doesn't need to get more complicated than that.

The "two posters" who were being discussed by poopacy's response were pradaslut and jarofpiss, both of whom have a prob history replete with "just asking questions here - what's the big deal?" Take a look at it sometime and take a look at how frequent (as in, not at all) probes of other posters are in this thread and see if maybe, just maybe, you can discern a different pattern regarding what exactly is taking this thread in the wrong direction. Does anyone have any suggestions for physically small and rules light games? And when I say physically small, I mean 'can fit into a standard purse'. I've usually got Tussie Mussie on hand, but wouldn't mind some more options (anyone have any experience with Button Shy's other games?).

Sprawlopolis is the best regarded of the Button Shy games I believe. Mint Works is a cute little worker placement game and it's a pity the other Mint games didn't live up to it.

This one's a little trickier to find as WYG has fallen on hard times, but Oddville is, imo, pound for pound one of the BEST rules light and physically small games that punches way above its weight class in terms of tough choices. Definitely fits in a purse.

I'm going to keep using kickstarter because it is a way to keep supporting various creators I want to support while still getting a product I want from them but it's fine if others do not want to support them. Hopefully the volatility and continued failure of crypto/nft/blockchain/etc will drive kickstarter to distance itself from that stuff and, if not, hopefully the creators I support will learn about and move to another more viable platform that isn't going to be tied to that stuff. Wouldn't mind seeing some proper competitors, I think it was only indiegogo for a while and idk if indiegogo was ever used for any tabletop stuff. Gamefound seems to be the up-and-coming option but idk how big it is. I imagine it can't be all that comparable to kickstarter as a whole but I don't know how it compares to kickstarter as far as just the tabletop stuff goes. With all that aside, I noticed the other day that an expansion for Quirky Circuits came out. https://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/336059 Quirky Circuits is a cooperative game where players are working together to program a robot to perform a task but they can't openly communicate with one another outside of a couple of basic gestures. The original game reviewed well enough. I'd pick up the expansion but I personally haven't even played my copy of the original yet (what else is new tho lol, I barely play anything I own) and it's not exactly a game you can play solo because the whole "game" part is about trying to communicate with other players what needs to be done without talking to them. Doing that by yourself would just be cheating lol

Hey, That's My Fish! is compact and can be even more compact if you ditch the box for a bag. Setup is slightly fiddly but after that the game is just "move one of penguins in a straight line (blocked by gaps or other penguins), take the iceberg piece you moved from; most fish wins". The Crew (both versions) is basically just two set of cards and a couple tokens + rule/mission book. The rule/mission book is the size of the box, but it's easy to just use a digital version on a phone/tablet/laptop (or throw a few button shy games in the box to fill up the empty space). Might be a little bit heavier than you're looking for.
