How did you rascals weigh size/quality of home vs location of home?

My budget is limited and I live in an expensive place of the country. There are some nice condos, with pleasant views, and over 1000 sf, but located in a meh neighborhood. Like nothing is within a 20 minute walk. However, the condos are situated in a convenient central-ish part of the city if you are willing to drive.

There are also people suffering from homelessness around, which doesn’t bother me personally but could hamper resale. Actual crime reporting statistics show that it’s a safe neighborhood.

Otherwise to find something more central I’d probably have to drop to like 650 sf or lower.

If the Seattle real estate market is to be believed, homeless encampments doesn't really drive down prices if it's otherwise a desirable area.

Here's more on the Disney thing. Apparently what the bill actually does is terminate the special districts on June 1, 2023 if the legislature takes no further action. This tells me that once they realize how much money is going to need to be transferred to local authorities (the article goes into that a little bit), the legislature can quietly back out of it after the election and leave everything the way it is now.

Yeah I agree. But Roe is basically dead already and they’re going to deliver a fresh load of teenaged trans corpses and gay and lesbian adult suicides after their marriages are annulled. Right beside all the low-income home abortion deaths.

Of course. Makes them look tough on the giant woke corporation for midterms while actually meaning nothing, and they can continue their absolutely vile attacks on trans kids. Culture war bullshit. gently caress them.

Yeah if you wanted to actually gentrify the tenderloin, you'd have to somehow eliminate all the fleabag residential hotels first. I'm sure there's plenty of moneyed interests trying to do exactly that, but my impression is that they haven't really succeeded, at least not yet.

Is there any difference in commute to work or somewhere else you would go frequently? I would pay more or get a smaller place if it meant cutting commuting time, there are only so many hours in a day. If you are interested in resale value, a lot of people really overvalue school ratings, though it could be a chicken and egg type thing since that tends to also correlate with income.

I am not sure how sustainable pricing is depending on where you are, I know we regret not maxing out our budget when we bought 8 years ago since we would really like an extra room and now it will cost substantially more to either remodel/buy now. Then again, without a time machine I am not sure how useful that is with prices what they are today. It is not like they can get any higher, right... (which I also said 8 years ago and my wife still holds over my head about me being wrong).

Duning-Krugger isn't really a thing. Like, there's definitely people who think they are good at something that they are not, but it's not as wide spread of a phenomenon as what people say.

Real ID requires a ton of docs. In Illinois I had to bring like my passport, SSN card, and a utility bill plus my old license. It’s stupid.

I think it's because a passport could be stolen, and altered with a different photo, because DMV isn't tied into the same computer system as the people who man the booths at customs & immigration so they can't authenticate your passport the same way.

Basically devolving national ID responsibilities to the 50 states and their 50 totally separate and incompatible ID systems was a colossal project that still isn't done and never will be.
