I wonder if this is going to just produce endless amounts of white people when photorealistic pictures are requested. Like that mariners game scene was looking pretty monochrome. I wonder if it would give you different things if you explicitly ask it for, for example, a latino xxx doing yyy. I mean I hope they mitigated that flaw, but otoh they’re tech bros so lol.

Eeyo posted:I've always been more skeptical of this than the other stuff tbh. Like we can forgive a lot of the rough edges for the images we're seeing itt, but I don't think we'll be as ready to forgive the edges in a computer program. I have this feeling that if you asked an ai to make a computer program for you to do a task, you'll just incur a lot of "technical debt" and not really get out ahead in the end. Thats a good point, not all software is built for the same tolerances. Automating website creation or database admin stuff is a lil different than a self driving car. But I'd argue the automation of the former affects way more jobs than the latter, as cutting edge stuff is generally niche with extremely hard to find talent. There is also the arms race of capitalism that seems to guarantee the second something is mass-producible a better version of it is immediately expected, which can never be fully-automated. I suppose the question is how many non-automatable jobs will remain in that pipeline? I'm also sort of assuming an exponential leap in ML or quantum tech will inevitably happen as long as we don't destroy ourselves first. Bad Purchase posted:i know you're bullshitting because in order to train a learning algorithm to produce good code, you would first have to identify a large training set of good code, which does not and will likely never exist Clearly someone never used a Zune

Ron Howard, Narrating - They destroyed themselves first. You can really see the leaps the tech has taken in just a few short years, it's pretty impressive just from a machine learning perspective, and the outputs are impressive as well.

I knew it in my heart of hearts poo poo like this was going to get very good very fast. My argument was always stuff like music or video streaming is going to become this. You pay to have access to some sort of AI generation thing and just..ask it to generate you content on the fly. It's too attractive for a profit-driven company like Disney who hates unions so bad. The issue though is there is only going to be so long its a thing because this is already out of the bag, why Disney AI or Amazon AI when the hobbyist one is even better without weird exclusions? These guys behind this latest Dall-E can try to clamp down on nefarious purposes but they can only protect themselves, this will absolutely be used for all the poo poo you can possibly imagine. The poster that was talking about how things here are going to get very, very weird is also my line of thinking. I can't wait
