severance was really good and is probably the single most anti-work piece of fiction I’ve ever seen. high high recommend.

... however, in my opinion it really should have been a miniseries. I know that that’s taboo and not done nowadays but if they had ended it after the nine episodes in season one and tweaked the ending it would have been perfect. a bit at a loss as to where it will go, and to be honest the social commentary and characters are more important to me than “the mystery”.

I haven't paid attention to the buzz (:v:) around Lightyear, but if I ever watch it I know I'm going to be annoyed by the fact that the character isn't voiced by Tim Allen the way that the toy is in-universe.

If I run out of things to watch I will finish that, and moon knight I think.

Moon Knight has been really up and down for me. First episode was great, then it became really rote until the last ten minutes or so of the most recent episode (Ep 4 I think?) where it went off the rails.

Marvel should lean more into weird stuff IMO, it's not like people aren't going to watch it just because it's weird.

Batman & Robin is actually unironically pretty funny. I think the only real problem with it is that it's difficult to separate "camp" from just plain "90s". Playing Poison Ivy as a straight up drag queen is inspired.

Definitely holds up a hell of a lot better than The Dark Knight Rises.

Oh and I had to watch it with subtitles because everyone was whispering and we cranked up the volume on the TV and still couldn't hear anything.
But honestly that could just be the HBO app having dog poo poo audio channeling. The HBO app it's literally the study streaming app out there. Roman was right to piss on it

I haven't watched Batman & Robin since someone pointed out to me that it's basically a Adam West-era Batman made and set in the 90s, but I wonder how different it feels with that mindset.

these days i find i have to put subtitles on for most everything. i don't know if it's because i'm watching poo poo late at night and need to keep the volume low enough such that every boom and explosion is suddenly +50dB louder than dialogue; or if media rips just do a weird poo poo job with audio and do some weird eac-5.1/dolby analvision codec poo poo; or if it's just that my lg cx's speakers don't cut it, and the viewsonic soundbar i have is pretty lovely and needs to be replaced.

I know you're talking about film but this reminded me that Peep Show was both good and refreshing.

Also I just rewatched Gattaca for the first time in ~20 years and liked it. Judd Law was perfect casting (just like The Talented Mr. Ripley) and everyone in it is equally beautiful, set designs were very 90s and it worked very well for the tone (like Dark City). A very nice, compact, bookish, and dystopian film. It's not socialist but it was good. Also reading about it afterward is how I learned Gore Vidal was bisexual.
