MU's really dropped the ball hard on adding new old (er...) back issues.

If you're paying for Marvel Unlimited, a service that's been around for a decade, you're pretty much morally in the clear pirating anything they haven't managed to put up yet.

I think after thinking about it last night, this might be the best new Spider-Man I have read in a long time. The book is nothing like what I would have said I wanted in a relaunch, but being interesting and well written are doing a great job of elevating it over the last 100 issues.

Curious to see how other Spider-Fans react to it, especially old school guys.

It's not that kind of test.
I agree that the writing was good, but the main plot hooks didn't do much for me. I appreciate that Tombstone saved his cat though.

Lol Spider man is worse than I thought, just an extremely clunky status quo reset with an eh we will explain it later, but why should I care at this point.

I just want a good Spider-Man book but I’m starting to think it just ain’t gonna happen

I have some faith in Wells, but turning up the heat on the dumpster fire that is Peter Parker's life isn't particularly enthralling. I may come back in a few issues and see what's happening.

I'm a little more interested in the Al Ewing story with Loki that ends today's Thor anniversary issue.

Peter Parker's life is more interesting when you focus on the small things. Less so when you turn him into a tech billionaire or have him haunted by the murderous ghost of his dead friend.

Let’s be real at this point they are never going to focus on Peters life ever again. Just make him miserable then ignore it more or less or just I don’t know make him date some rando for a few ussues.

Like when was the last time Peters life had any significant focus? pre CW JMS?

I feel like Spider-Man has done that a few times, like Aunt May died in issue 400 during the clone saga and wasn't it issue 700 where doc ock took over his body?

That’s fair about Doc Ock but Aunt May dying wasn’t just misery porn it was a genuinely good issue.

Also Dock Ock for more personal growth in Peters body than Peter has in 25 years

Hey, so I want to read the whole doc ock in Peter’s body thing. Does it start at ASM 700? Is Superior Spoder-Man it’s own title or another New Number One with ‘legacy numbers’ or whatever? I’m really confused by all this and from mostly lurking this thread it seems like amazing has been a complete dumpster fire since I left off in the mid nineties. Only thing recent I read was most of Zdarsky’s Spectacular run, which was pretty good and fun and didn’t seem to have an misery porn like what seems to happen over in amazing.

Superior Spider-Man was its own title and it replaced Amazing, which ended at 700 and restarted again with the conclusion of Superior.

As far as starting point, I think it works best to start at #682 with the Ends of the Earth storyline and read up to #700 before going into Superior.

I liked this issue of Punisher a lot better than the first.

Spider-Man was ehhhh, I dunno. I'll have to see where it goes. Some of it is interesting, but I'm really tired of constantly splitting him and MJ. Though I'm sure Wells is gonna have it happen eventually, it's like, we just got there so having to do it all over again is a drag. I'm also not sure what the mystery of what he did to get people pissed is really needed. Could've maybe said what happened and gotten it out of the way. But Wells has a really good track record, so hopefully that keeps up.

Thanks! So if I’m understanding this right, I can start at ASM 682 and just keep reading til the end? Like Will superior start immediately as a number one but still be legacy number 701? Sorry if I’m sounding dense, it’s like I get the words y’all are saying but I’m having trouble figuring out long running comics and this loving legacy numbering and every six to twelve issues there’s a new number one! But it’s not! Seriously, this is making me long for the days when they’d just put foil or holograms on gatefold covers. gently caress.

Superior Spider-Man is pretty fantastic even just taken by itself. Superior Foes of Spider-Man is also a great Spider-Man adjacent title that makes Spencer's ASM run even more disappointing in my opinion.

Yeah you can read Amazing 682-700, then Superior Spider-Man. Once Superior is over, Amazing starts back up in 2014 with a new #1. It will get another #1 shortly afterward because of Secret Wars, and I think it's only in that volume does the legacy numbering begin to appear later on.

I don't remember Superior having legacy numbering but I think Marvel counts it towards Amazing's overall total since it was the main book at the time.
