The kind of kid who could walk into a toy store at Christmas and just straight-arm a whole shelf of toys into their parent's trolley. I remember seeing a Star Wars toy ad when I was a kid with a bunch of kids playing with their toys. One had a Vader figure and, behind him, about 20 stormtroopers. Blew my loving mind as a kid. "Wait, you can have more than one of a toy?"

Now as a grown up, I've sensibly settled for two stormtroopers to flank my Star Wars Black Series Vader. When Hasbro put out that Droid Troop Transport for the prequels that included !20 loving droids! I realized that I'd have done anything to have that as a kid, burn my grandparents' house down with them still in it, whatever. I didn't buy it; just knowing that children today had the easy troop building option made the world seem a little brighter.

Of course, none of us got so much as a second stormtrooper because there was always some new toy we didn't have one of when buying time rolled around. The pro move is to collect Lego since so many sets come with one or two Storrmtroopers you end up with a small army after a while.

According to the artist those (and three other variations I didn't post) were done in a single evening. They're sketches he did for the director, he would have liked to refine them more, but they didn't get chosen to go further and he never found the time. I find the low res, hastily bashed ESB poster elements to be part of the charm! It goes with the really loose quality of the rest of it. Different artist, similar subject; finished box art for a boardgame expansion:

Makes sense to a degree. The X-Wing helmet is just Imperial kit with a bit left off, much like the Nebulon-B. I wonder what the TIE pilot helmet looks like with the blast shield down though, and if that's why Han had one in the Falcon.

It would make sense from an in-universe point of view (as opposed to in-props department). The rebels are probably either buying military surplus helmets, or just buying theirs from the same supplier. The Star Wars equivalent of David Clark probably provides the Imperial Spec version for a hundred thousand space bucks to the Empire, and the rebels just buy the much more reasonably priced (but still how does this cost so much expensive) off-the-shelf model, since they don't need fancy storm trooper mask integration.

It was on that space yacht the Benicio character stole from the casino planet in order to save Finn and Rose, so he could betray them later. Anyway, it had easily accessible ship schematic plans or something showing that the yacht's space-euro-gambler-owner was playing both sides of the war. It makes no sense because there's always been a big deal made about how the scrappy rebels had to scrounge together durable junky ships from shady dealers and off-brand manufacturers to compete with the shiny assembly-line expendable Imperial ships, so why would they all be getting the same stuff a few years later, but don't think too hard about it. It kind of makes sense as a callback to Episode 3, where the Jedi fly TIEs and the stormtroopers fly X-Wings with helmets that mix the imagery of both sides of the war. Though in that case "the war is just a scam that a small group of people are profiting from" was a big part of the story, while in TLJ it's just a throwaway thing.

We also learn in Rebels that the Y-Wings look like they've had the hulls mostly stripped because they have. They were all stolen from a junker's yard. All of them. Every single one. At the same time. I haven't played Squadrons but lol at how everyone talks about the TIEs being exactly as awkward as the seem. One entirely forward-facing viewport, plus you've got to look through the tiny eyeholes in your helmet. No wonder the rebels won. Me and my wife both got pilot licenses recently, and visual flying rules are hard enough. Good lord imagine flying around in an imperial helmet with WW2 instruments and a TIE cockpit. Tie pilot helmets (and Stormtrooper helmets) have complex AR HUD optics, the physical cockpit displays are just redundancies. The rebels don't have them so they have to make do with a janky external targeting computer. Unfortunately, the AR overlay requires exact, precise, individual calibration for every user, otherwise targeting will be wildly inaccurate. Just about doable for the pilot corps, not so much for the storm trooper grunts. But Grand Moff Kickbacks was sold on the flashy sales pitch, figured hell they're clones, their eyes are all the same anyway, and contracted 100 million units with options for another 200 million.
