Isn't there an issue of A+X where Superior Spider-Man teams up with Magneto and Magneto spends a decent amount of time making GBS threads on Doc Ock as well?

I so remember the panel where Carnage sends a tendril to another guy at a computer and he's marvelling at it like it's some newfangled 3D or holo-imagery (bro don't you know what your own monitor is capable of?) just before it drills through his face.

I think I still have that comic sitting around somewhere. It was one of the first comics I bought myself because Carnage was rad as hell to child me. Looking back I can tell I was absolutely loving right.

Ah, I see the break in the panel lines now. A blank line would have been better to separate them.

I like how Foster sometimes likes to remind that these cheery murder fests are pretty hosed up and then manages to sneak a joke there to lighten the mood.

Today, but I think "Namor blows a shell horn to summon a beast from the depths" is a pretty old trope (hence the Doom meme).

Comic books reference themselves a lot but also I feel like in general culture blowing a horn to summon a monster goes back even further than Doomtoots.

Kwyndig

Yeah the comic was definitely referring to Doom, same horn shape I think same monster too. That said, that did not originate with Doom, there's a wealth of movies and pulp stories that have people sounding horns to summon up monsters.

maybe for one second you can pause; try to step into another person's perspective, and understand that a watermelon is cursing me

It's the same horn shape as the Doom panel because Namor blew that horn in literally his very first modern appearance in Fantastic Four to summon the same whalebeast.

The implication is that the horn is magical, but maybe it just makes a really annoying noise, or is just slightly out of pitch.
