I mean, I’m as surprised as you are. UF pitching was thin and you guys stung us for lots of runs. None of the wins ever felt remotely safe.

I think I saw something where most of our pitchers had <25innings under their belt in college. Talent is there but it’ll take time to click for sure.

I’m glad we somehow managed to squeak out a series win. It was desperately needed.

Why does the too much pine tar rule still exist at any level of play? What is the theoretical advantage to the hitter to smear it up a little too high on the bat?

Can potentially create extra backspin on the ball. Whether it’s enough to affect a hit is a little murky but it’s enough that it raises complaints when one dude has it all up his bat and others don’t and that dude cranks a home run.

Tech broke their Sunday issues with a walk-off HR to sweep KSU. Was a necessary series sweep for momentum after dropping 2 to GCU midweek. Coming up on our series at TCU, which will be huge for the conference championship race.

Ole Miss fell from Top 10 to barely in any of the Top 25s on the back of midweek loss to Southern Miss (who jumped 10 spots this week) and getting swept at home by Alabama. Tennessee is still consensus #1 and Miami was almost a consensus #2, with the USA Today coaches poll and NCBWA poll being having them at 3 (behind Oregon State) with the other four polls having them at 2. But they got pasted last night 12-5 at Virginia Tech so their time here may not last. And Arkansas lost their first SEC Series in a long, long time. Much like the 3 point streak in basketball, all good things are made to end, I guess.

Biggest news of the midweek so far is two top 5 losses, Texas Tech to Oklahoma and Tennessee to Tennessee Tech. Miami had to dig deep against FAU, down 6-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, to get a win or there would have been a third. Midweek games are not always indicators of any issues given it's, a lot of times, the chance for your lesser used players to get a run out, but Texas slide kind of started with a midweek loss so....... lol no Tennesee is going to destroy Alabama this weekend, I am glad they are playing a different A school.

Tony got tossed for this last night and will probably get suspended but lol at the umps reaction, gently caress that dweeb.

https://twitter.com/zackrickenstv/status/1515455361515458562?s=21&t=392-pe1hFLZ7veYuNS-BUw

Later the ump took issue with the fur coat the players put on after a home run and told them they couldn’t do it anymore.

Same ump also tossed the Bama first base coach later in the game.

e: lol this is apparently the same guy who threw our 3rd base coach out of the game in the CWS last year…when he was in the dugout. Apparently he’s known for showing his rear end and making it the ump show.

This Florida team is infuriating.

We’ve had late leads in all three games against Vandy and gave up all of them.

Facing a sweep and up 3-1 on the last strike of the game, we gave up a tying 2-run shot. Managed to win in the tenth after a throwing error and a balk put the tying run on second with two out B10.

I know it’s a young team but this is two years of underperformance after losing the 2020 season as #1. Not sure what the future looks like here but with a ascendant Tennessee and several SEC powers having emerged over the past 5 years I’m not super optimistic.

Tech got swept by TCU.

Dunno what happened in game 3, but game 2 had the stupidest ending:

Tech gets bases loaded, 1 out, pitcher walks one home to make it 3-4. Gets called for a balk to make it 4-4. Other umps overrule the balk, say he stepped off the bag. Most awkward looking thing had the pitcher do a weird jump as their lead foot is coming down? I dunno, it was dumb. They only showed the replay once. Tadlock almost got tossed. Pitcher managed to escape with an infield fly and a grounder. Tech players almost got in a fight with the Umps after the last out.

Disappointing series for TTU and really opens the Big XII up.

After reaching #4 in most polls, Tech has lost the last 5, dropping a mid-week game to UNM after a walk-off HR. This after going up 6-0 in the game.

I don't know what college rotations are like but I always found it laughable when a pitcher gets a 4 or 5 game suspension. Like ok I'll just take an extra rest day.

Was there ever any story about what the batter did that caused that reaction? With no context I'm surprised the pitcher didn't get even more punishment.

Nothing specific that I’ve seen, just “taunting” which could be a bunch of stuff. I don’t think there’s anything he could have said that warranted what the pitcher did though, but who knows

Also saw that the school is considering expelling the pitching which lol he was planning on transferring anyway

The only even remote justification would be something racial but then you look like a real doofus suspending the pitcher twice as long (yes I know that's technically only one start for a pitcher) so I assume that is not it

e: actually now that I think about it if that pitcher is in fact a starter, in college generally you play a weekend 3 game series and a Tuesday game every week so that literally is one start and therefore less than the guy he tackled, lol

I think suspensions should be different for pitchers and position players. Your example is correct in that a four game suspension is better for a pitcher than it is a position player.

Suspensions should be for starts, not for games. Coaches and non-starters can still be for games.

In HS, guys will pitch on 1 day rest a lot and will go 2 in a row in the playoffs.

I think being expelled is a pretty extreme reaction...

Tennessee continues to be the unstoppable force in college baseball right now, unanimous #1 yet again. Oregon State would have been unanimous #2 but Collegiate Baseball (they're drunk) has them at 5. Miami was pretty close to a unanimous 3 as well - they averaged out to exactly 3, but had one poll at 2 and one poll at 4. So the top three is pretty set, and from there it opens up a lot.

Collegiate Baseball... what are you doin? Arizona is #26 in the composite solely on CB giving them the #11 slot, no one else has them ranked. UC Santa Barbara, #27, is the same - Collegiate Baseball has them at 13 while no one else has them at all. They also have Virginia Tech unranked, a team that is between 5 and 10 in every other poll. Gonzaga (9-14 in all other polls) also unranked, while Vanderbilt is 6 (18 to unranked) and Texas State is 7 (18 to unranked). I know different opinions will exist but... that's a wild outlier.

Florida State was the lone team to fall out this week. Gonzaga, Oregon, and Oklahoma State had the other biggest slides, down 4 or 5 spots. Arkansas lost a tough series on the road to Texas A&M. Game three the Hogs were down big early, but fought back to an 11-10 loss. Tough to take, but gotta remember: The Arkansas team in the Cursed Year that finished runner up lost every single road SEC series they played that year, so it's not about now. But Sunday starter has to be figured out sooner rather than later.

Couple of Top 10 matchups in Va Tech @ Virginia and OKSt @ Texas, those could be fun, and of course watching the Death Star march on is exciting, too. Poor Auburn.

Top 25 matchups this week:
#9 Virginia Tech @ #8 Virginia
#20 Auburn @ #1 Tennessee
#7 Oklahoma State @ #10 Texas
#18 Georgia @ #23 LSU

Top 5 teams not in the above:
#2 Oregon State @ Utah
#3 Miami @ Georgia Tech
#4 Southern Miss @ UAB
Ole Miss @ #5 Arkansas
