Forecast is predicting around 90F/32C race weekend. Still kind of early but drivers are gonna have a bad time. And not just from a bad track.

Nice. I used to crit race which is basically NASCAR on bikes, and I know all these dudes are in top shape, but being protected by a CF cocoon has to give you some sense of invincibility when diving into a corner vs on a bike.

There‘s a recent interview with Vasseur where he said he‘s looking into options to become less reliant.

I sadly can only offer it in German:

Or Italian:

Maybe Google Translate helps.

Audi is ready to offer around 500 million euros ($556.30 million) for British luxury sports carmaker McLaren as a means to enter, a source told Reuters in March, while Porsche intends to establish a long-term partnership with racing team Red Bull starting in several years' time.

Yeah it goes under the turnpike ramps and then has to squeeze into a tiny space at the top right of the property for the beginning of the long straight. It’s a bit bonkers they fit it all in.

Essentially. But there’s still worries about how these groups can possibly work together to effectively triple the resources available to new manufacturers.

yeah and immediately noped out the second their parent company experienced any hardship, because turns out one motorsport program is expensive, let alone two

some bullshits going to happen a year or two in, their stocks going to momentarily dip or whatever, their board is going to look at the books and have a collective heart attack and pull the plug on everything. calling it now.

Alpha Tauri are explicitly a B-team to cultivate drivers for the A-team and have been from the start. It was never their intention to compete with Red Bull. Its also generally accepted, at least early on, that some transfer of tech and info went on between the two

Unless its been stated otherwise, the assumption is both Audi and Porsche would be competing at the same level which raises questions about 1. the point and 2. what's stopping them sharing data

both Audi and Porsche would be joining with existing teams, so nothing new - just re-branding of Red Bull engines as Porsche, and Audi supplying a team currently powered by Mercedes. if Audi do decide to create a new team, that would take us to 22 cars, and Andretti joining would go to 24. I believe there are a maximum of 13 team slots right now, so 26 would be it.

Rhopunzel posted:

As to why spend the money: they've got some levels of autonomy, and clearly both sides have presented business cases they claim can work. Audi's is balls deep, and either going in hard with McLaren or building their own team, thus learning the lessons Renault have had to teach themselves a few times. Porsche is the badge job, to try and partner with Red Bull, so I wouldn't be shocked if factory Porsches in other areas start wearing Red Bull schemes if that goes through. Factory racing is expensive, spending others' money is better than yours.

But the "two arms of the same manufacturer, plus an existing team, and they might be sharing notes?" is the reason why there's been hesitancy apparently with the existing manufacturers. "New manufacturers" get some extra funding to develop, but what happens when there are two new manufacturers under the same roof, and would Porsche and Red Bull PT both count as "new" manufacturers? Would any of the current design of the Honda RBPT carry over? That's what needs to get decided.
