Hunt Down the Freeman, though...

I doubt it would have been on sale on steam if valve didn't give it the green light to reuse its universe and related assets.

Black Mesa probably had to go the extra mile because it was heavily reusing plot, level design and many other aspects, for the obvious reason that it was a remake. And if it did real well, it would have precluded any Valve effort to do a remake themselves. From what little I played of it, it's real top notch.

This is true. Anyway there's been a fair few 'semi-official' mods that have had Steam pages and a couple of free doujin/fan games. There was this the other week: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1933590/Trails_of_Illusion/ which also seems to just lift CS3/4 assets lol

I thiiiink Sega has the game IP rights for Kemono Friends and generally speaking they're pretty good about not giving a poo poo about fangames so long as they aren't monetized, with the exception of SORR but that may have been due to it being Ancient's property in the end.

occasionally some vn will get knocked back for taking place in a school despite having no porn or anything but cuckold simulator will get through no problem so yeah sounds like it

no. it is completely random. there is zero consistency to it. they almost disallowed a game from the fata morgana dev because, it used a piece of classical art that had a naked guy in it in the credits. they've allowed the oshirabu games, which are yuri vns with 18+ epilogue patches, but they haven't allowed curse of kudan, which is an all-ages game where the closest they get to nudity is in a time skip to when the main character is an adult lying in bed with her girlfriend. they have allowed seven days with the ghost, which is, an entire game about lesbians in magic academy having sex and talking about fetishes and sexual expression, but they almost banned an all-ages yuri vn about learning esperanto because it has a bath cg.

literally nobody knows what their criteria is. they target games entirely at random and the best idea anyone has is that there's two guys at valve who really hate anime vns and will disallow them if they're around to see them being submitted, because there's basically no other explanation for why half of the games submitted aren't allowed. frankly, higurashi is more lewd than several of the games they've nearly taken a hardline stance on

i mean. the assumption is that they aren't and that's why it's so inconsistent. the best explanation is just that most of the people at valve don't care except like, one guy who dislikes vns on some weird principle

but i got no evidence that it's not a guy with opinions on vn's doing it inconsistently tho so who knows

why does the automation specifically target japanese vns for rejection and, who is the law firm sending out notices over evenicle 2 but not over evenicle 1

it just feels too weirdly specific, what category of game randomly gets rejected with no explanation and no consistency in guidelines. it's sure not stopping the endless flood of poser porn

OMG so I just finished the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter X Hunter and, dude

I've never seen anything like it. The arc is over 60 episodes, and spends most of it building up small details. It makes the pacing weird as gently caress (I kept on thinking, idk who watched this as it released but talk about blue balls).

However the entire arc and its pacing issues are in direct service of the last 20 episodes, and holy gently caress were those some episodes.

I'm not even sure I could tell someone to watch it because it asks so much of the viewer to wait soooo many episodes for the payoff, but I personally haven't seen a better payoff in all of anime so far. What an undertaking.

The only part that I got pretty wtf about was when the royal guard gave their life force to the king and like... orgasmed? They orgasmed didn't they? But I still get what they were going for. What a ride.

Drops out into all this disorder
former valve employees have talked about the internal structure of the company before. surprise: its completely atomized anarchy where basically no one is held accountable for anything and you can keep your job and do basically whatever you like as long as you can demonstrate to the biggest honchos that you are doing something they deem valuable. in return you are basically completely unmonitored and there is zero oversight on your actions. that in turn means its actually really easy (and therefore likely) that there is indeed some random steam quality control guy who thinks any game with an anime person on it is for perverts but pussy2 is fine because it may be sex but its not pervert sex! automation does not explain the very easy, human identifiable issues that consistently get you in trouble with steam.
