This is probably the closest definition posted so far. Moe has probably countless subcategories at this. Like gap moe, which someone else alluded to earlier, which comes from when there’s a gap between expectation and reality. For example, a big scarred up yakuza-looking motherfucker, but he’s actually really into floral arrangements, scented candles, and he goes to the park every day at 2 to feed the birds. One particularly fat pigeon seems to get along with him the best and he calls it Pringle-san. That’s gap moe

well no, it mostly goes one way. the reverse wouldn''t be gap moe - somebody who is into floral arrangements but they're 'secretly' a criminal thug. Like 'deretsuns' aren't moe. Hence why the wikipedia reference to neoteny - whats cute is weakness, vulnerability, and infantilization

It's pretty much these. From what I can recall at the time, Moe was pushed to intentionally trigger these kind of protective feelings in men so they would feel fatherly or elderly brotherly pangs. It's evolved into the "cute girls doing cute things" genre, which is like emotional porn for guys who never had sisters. Moe art style needed to be neotenous because the more baby-like the character seemed the more sympathy they could draw. In a way it's even more perverted than being a pedophile and having a sexual motive for being a fan. Although a lot of fans were absolutely pedophiles.

Well, you’re right that it goes one way, but that’s because the other way isn’t endearing. A seemingly nice person who kills hookers in their off hours is not endearing, and therefore not moe in the first place

if I had to recommend anime, it would be cowboy bebop for people that like action, and yurucamp for people that don't like action. Or spirited away if it has to be action, but for kids.

Although the best christmas movie is tokyo godfathers.

And if they like that stuff and are willing to see what full weeb looks like, then maybe a 3 episode test of maid dragon. It has action, slice of life, comedy, and some elements that aren't as acceptable to mainstream americans.

I've been so desperate for anime with stories about adults or even an adult cast that I was willing to give Cop Craft a pass despite being pretty mediocre. Spy x Family practically feels God-sent.

Thanks to that show, I absolutely want a japanese hatchet to cut firewood.

Never mind that I'll never get to use it since I live in California. And I would be wary of using it anywhere because apparently wildfires in north america can happen anywhere, even canada.

hell, :same:, I am successfully resisting the gear lust but I still bought new tents last year and hopefully I get to break them in this year. Figures that the first thing I want to do when the pandemic breaks is get away from society.

Maybe I should actually bring my cast iron pan instead of just eating instant oatmeal and MREs. Take my first step towards being a one pole tent grandpa equivalent.

what did you get? i bought a snow peak AMENITY DOMO in February 2020 and it ended up being a great time to buy and it's a very sick tent for car camping. tough and comfy. it even has a front porch style of vestibule and an custom-cut interior foam mat for tent lounging.

please love yourself do not eat just oatmeal and MREs. the curry cup noodle is also great camp food, but i like to pre-prep dinners at home (like butter chicken) so I can just heat up something and toss it over instant rice. big improvement. i have a little cast iron in my camping gear.

one of these guys? they seem cool, but open fires aren't smart in the mountain west, so I mostly stick to gas lanterns for the vibes

my gf got me this for my bday last year, and it's a very aesthetic way to drain nearly-empty gas canisters:

I got a one person tent for backpacking (REI Passage) and a four person tent for car camping (REI Kingdom).

I'm still working on improving my sleep systems though. So watching yurucamp in the meanwhile and testing camp dishes at home will have to do until then.

Correction - she's a highly competent professional assassin who also happens to be a sweet-natured airhead. Fabricating an entire personality is more her husband's thing.
