Lost Universe is Kinda Slayers, so here is a remix of ~infinity~, the OP to Lost Universe:

the show was meh but the OST slapped. i’ve been listening to old Napster rips of them for the last ~20 years, and i finally bought the albums from amazon japan last month

Speaking of Lost Universe, was there any more to the novels out of curiosity or did the anime pretty much cover it all (having seen the latter for the first time one recently myself it’s no Slayers but it wasn’t completely terrible at least)?

i credit it all to pork, a loving ton of fresh basil, the really expensive kind of san marzano tomatoes, and the power of slayers OSTs

I've been tempted to watch it as well. I've recently caught a bunch of episodes of the original tokusatsu show on Shout Factory's streaming channel, and now I can't get the theme song out of my head.

Both anime sequels are really good and you should watch them (they’re also short, only like 12 episodes or so each)

The origial live action series is alright as well (and technically canon to the anime) but it’s not required viewing aside from a bit of extra context and the animes are better in my opinion anyway

Wish I was there...
thinking back on it, family matters (which I watched to the bitter end as it was airing) was probably foundational to my taste in manga/anime romcoms in terms of its archetypes and chasteness. I like a variety of other things now, but the aforementioned is likely something I’ll never let go of

It’s good at what it is, but it’s unfiltered misery porn. There are absolutely people I know who I would never recommend it to.

We need more women in STEM, and by that, I mean skateboarding, television, esports, and magic.
Just finished Paranoia Agent, which was terrific. I thought I had no familiarity with it whatsoever, but when the incredible opening played, I realized that I had at least seen a preview of that before. I'm guessing it had some short run on Adult Swim ~20 years ago where maybe I caught a commercial or something like that.

I've now watched all of Satoshi Kon's major works, and I can definitively rank them:

1.) Tokyo Godfathers
2.) Millennium Actress
3.) Paranoia Agent
4.) Perfect Blue
5.) Paprika

I think the first two are masterpieces, the third and fourth are excellent, and the fifth is good. He really batted a thousand, goddamn.

I'm trying to close out the shows I'm interested in with English dubs on Funimation but not Crunchyroll before unsubscribing from the former. I think I'm down to FLCL, Gurren Lagann, and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. I've also been holding out hope for an English dub of seasons two and three of Magia Record, but I guess that's not happening, and I don't think that's on Crunchyroll at all so I guess I better bite the bullet there.

Yeah, Paranoia Agent was one of the earliest shows on Adult Swim's anime block. It was one of the first non-shonen anime I ever watched and I remember I was fascinated by it even at like the age of 14.

I loved paranoia agent on adult swim. I rewatched it all around 2011 and realized I didn't get it as a kid. I rewatched it in Japanese last year but my ability wasn't good enough to like it more than the English sub.

It's not unfiltered misery porn. Yes it's depressing and sad, but ultimately it's about children who have a limited amount of time left, and how they choose to use that time. The only thing I hate about it is that the rapist teacher gets away with everything.

Based on that one spoilered statement, I can confidently say that manga is not something I would enjoy reading. Nobody should be forced to consume media, in my humble opinion.

marumaru

speaking of misery porn i've been reading some seriously hosed up manga and while they are really well written it's hosed up enough stuff that i'm probably not going to continue reading
i'm also probably quitting my tendency of not reading anything about new shows/movies/manga before picking them up and going in blind. i enjoy not having any expectations but i keep getting burned by this, and i've had this experience enough times already.

the latest one has been i want to be hurt by love and it's super well written and drawn but wow does it go a bit beyond "that's kinda weird" :stare:

When I rewatched the anime this year it hosed me up. I wanted to read the light novel but I probably won't.

That was the anime that you went to school the next day and talked to the same kids who talked about DBZ and Gundam and went "what the gently caress was that?" and no one had an answer or understood it but thought it was cool as hell.
