You've got to know, to understand,
Baby, take me by my hand,
I'll lead you to the promised land.
Honestly the LNP could save everyone a lot of time and trouble and just transfer me $50k from a zoomer's super account now. I won't complain.

Wasn't there already some super for first home thing going on since last election? Like putting more into your super to get decent interest and then you could pull 30k or something tax free?

Superannuation supercharges the stock market and investment sectors, but it also reduces the governments need to supply pensions. Letting people take money out of their super to help afford a housing deposit is the worst idea I think I've ever heard a politician say.

Probably because no one has any spare money because wages haven't moved in a decade but hey what do I know I just can't afford to save for a house.

A LOT more political ads in Lego Masters tonight. About 3-2 in favor of Labor, and all new ones too. All the LNP ones are the same ones from 5 weeks ago.

One of the Labor ones was Albo himself about building for the future. In a Lego Masters time slot.

Yeah it didn't do anything about actually helping people get a deposit, literally only helps if you already have cash lying around and will save you some tax by letting it sit in Super for a while. One of those policies that doesn't actually achieve anything but has a name they can put on a press release and make it seem like they are doing something.

It’s really great you got these translated and I hope they spread information to those communities - instead of bullshit like “the correct way to vote is to number 1 against the Liberal party” in AEC colours that we had last election.

iPhone/Apple translates them back to English as:
*Extremely Decaying People's Party
*Prudently weaken the People's Party
*Independent Candidates
*Caring Party

Obviously missing some nuance in the first two, but Google seems to handle it better:
*extremist party
*Cautious Decline Party
*independent candidate
*love party

the libs loving hate industry super funds (bc of union ties?) and this helps destroy them (along with the rest of the industry more broadly) while encouraging and enabling further transfers of wealth to the rich, so it's a win-win to them from that perspective

A curious screenshot was sent to Diary at 9.12pm on Wednesday, as the final showdown between Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese was starting.

The reliable Liberal source claimed it was a list of the debate questions, which had been leaked to the Prime Minister’s office earlier that evening.

Which could explain ScoMo’s uncharacteristically calm and unflappable demeanour as he smashed out talking point after talking point, including the perfect pivot from compliment to insult in the final “name something nice” probe. And why he stumbled when the conversation turned to backbench cabinet minister Alan Tudge and the $500k staffer settlement, one topic not canvassed in the leak.

The Liberals deny they were given a heads-up (“categorically untrue”) … but they would say that, wouldn’t they? What’s the alternative, that Diary’s source is psychic? This columnist would rather let readers decide. Here’s a list of the leaked questions, compared to what Seven’s political editor Mark Riley actually asked.

The Libs hate industry super funds coz they outperform private ones since they're not trying to make a profit on top of member returns. That and how dare these groups incrementally gain enough power and influence that they can start demanding their buddies at mining companies do something about climate change and implement Consequences.

Checking the Greens HTV guide for the Victorian Senate and they preference Victorian Socialists second but Socialist Alliance not at all. I know nothing about either except their names, are the latter tankies or something?

lih
May 15, 2013

Just a friendly reminder of what it looks like.

We'll do punctuation later.
victorian socialists is socialist alternative, who are trotskyists. socialist alliance were also part of victorian socialists alongside salt for a bit but they split and are not trotskyists. both have their issues but not really to do with ideology, more just tactics & internal problems. victorian socialists are a little more active in electoral politics in victoria (they've won a council seat before) so that's likely why the greens have them there. greens have socialist alliance on their senate htv in other states.

the actually bad total crank socialist party you should completely avoid is socialist equality party, who got deregistered due to not having enough members under the new rules but are still running independents in the senate in every state. they're also trotskyists but are extremely anti-identity politics and anti-metoo movement and will write long screeds defending every celebrity accused of sexual wrongdoing, among other issues.

No. AEC ballot paper formality guidelines PDF.

Consecutive sequence of numbers
House of Representatives ballot paper is only formal if the voter has indicated a first preference and consecutively numbered all boxes. A number in the series may not be repeated or skipped.

apparently not. lower house must fill in every box, can't repeat numbers. https://www.aec.gov.au/voting/how_to_vote/voting_hor.htm

Which honestly it's a bit poo poo of a rule. If someones made their voting intentions clear why not count their vote up until it easily can be, or let them chose to extinguish their vote if after the first one or two candidates they feel they don't want their vote going to any of them/all equally poo poo.
