I think they've lost far more than 1/3rd. The SDO in the last transcript reported:

quote:

And right now, by the way -- and I didn't mention this earlier -- but we assess that Russia has now 105 operational BTGs in Ukraine total.

So, you're below 66% just by raw count of BTGs from the initial force which was up around 180+ BTGs. And none of those are even remotely close to 100%.

I believe it was 195k initially but there have also been supplemental troops added since that time. I'm not sure if we have a total deployed number.

For comparisons sake, America lost roughly 36, 000 dead in the Korean War.

It was something like 135k + 60k from LNR/DNR, so I'm not sure if those are being included. But given that NATO was reporting the RF took 40k casualties towards the end of the Kyiv push, I think they're using the bigger number. In which case :stare:

If you had enough of these, aimed and positioned properly, and maybe with some of the heavier unguided rockets whose designation escapes me, maybe, maybe this might make sense in some universe.

But as it is this looks like "da colonel, we empty pods on enemy"

E: because I'm bored and feel like possibly making a fool of myself, the weight of the warhead on an S-5 rocket as is probably used by Su-25s and Mi-24s like this is about 2 pounds. The B-8M1 pods, assuming that's what they're using are 20 rounds.

The heaviest warhead for the S-8 rocket is about 15 pounds.

The Grad rocket warhead is between 40 and 50 pounds per rocket, and those are 40 tubes.

I no math gud but this makes no sense on any planet.

Agreed. They start as different sizes based on composition from day 0 and then casualties and equipment outages etc make them even more dissimilar over time.

Tanks only come with one crew. If the driver is out taking a poop or eating or whatever, gonna slow down reaction time. If the crew is asleep, reaction time. If the tank was turned off to save fuel and remain quieter, reaction time.

Why does Russia continue to use these lovely under strength BTG formations and not just reorganize into traditional companies/brigades/regiments/divisions?

E: I saw one of these clips on Reddit the other day but it was HD video of the drone dropping the bomb on a trench of infantry. They heard the whistle and started to scatter and one of the dudes took a direct hit running away. No gore because of the the dust of the explosion but that was enough internet for the day.

There's a joke in here that to make top attack munitions, the Americans invented a $120,000 thermal sight to launch $175,000 missiles.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians strap standard mortar rounds of anti tank grenades to consumer dji drones.p

Yes yes this started in Syria, and that does not appear to be a drone you get from best buy don't ruin my joke okay.

The tank was sitting with its engine off. It's a crew of three and it looks like two dudes run away immediately after the first round lands, leaving almost certainly just one guy inside. The front of the vehicle is towards the right side of the video and you can see the engine fire up at 0:50 and at 1:04 the driver begins attempting to reposition the vehicle... and about ten seconds later the last round hits dead-on and it's all over.

That might seem like forever to us watching, but with the time it takes for the driver to actually get situated, power on everything, start the engine, and get the vehicle moving, plus the delay from the initial shock and confusion and figuring out how to react, that time evaporates real quick.

DJI is for 1st world war tourists (and recon). That's a $30 flight controller board on a DIY drone. Well, it probably has dual IMUs, so add $4 to the price. The video is analog, with a $1.5 overlay chip putting some letters on it. Bet they spend most money on batteries, carbon fiber spars, motors and specially what seems to be a thermal camera (with analog video output). I bet the camera alone costs over $50!
