I think it's kind of interesting that Jimmy and Kim were granted such a ridiculous coincidence as to run into their judge to tip them off to his cast. One of the pieces of writing wisdom you'll hear Vince repeat a lot is that a coincidence should ultimately never help the protagonist, it should only be unlucky. To be honest without knowing anything else it seems a bit sloppy for Jimmy to just run into the guy at a random place in the ABQ, maybe if he was scoping out the guy's stomping grounds or something.

I mean, Dr. Caldera showed up in season 1 as the Underworld Connections guy. Whenever Saul knew a guy who knew a guy, I always assumed Caldera was the former, all the book does is take out the middle man.

Great point, but maybe we shouldn't think of saving the scheme as "ultimately" helping the protagonists. The scheme is obviously going to ruin Kim's life and her relationship with Jimmy, maybe it would be better for them both if it fell flat with the bogus castless photos.

Just watched it and the tension and sense of imminent DOOM was so strong I almost felt like throwing up. The ending had me screaming at her to leave it and carry on to her meeting with Cliff. I’m not sure I even want to watch next week’s now, I dread to think how horribly this will backfire for Kim. And even if it somehow doesn’t, it’s going to destroy a guy who, while a bit of a jerk, really doesn’t deserve it. Man, I felt so bad at seeing this glimpse into Howard’s home life. Also, props to the girl playing Young Kim, it was obvious who she was playing the second we see that shaking leg shot. Was kinda thrown by her mom talking like Rhea while looking like Clare Danes tho.

If Walt and Skyler had just bought the laser tag like Saul insisted, Skyler would've been much less liable when the whole thing blew up. Walt would have ended up killing Pryce by secretly converting one of the laser guns into an actual gun and getting Pryce to shoot himself in the head with it

Going in to the episode, I was thinking maybe that Kim might have a change of heart given the opportunities coming her way, tries to back out, but Jimmy goes ahead with it against her wishes, and that's how they end up estranged.

Being on the losing end shattered that view of things for her. Now things are binary, if you're not in on it, then you're necessarily a mark. I don't find Kim's hatred of Howard all that odd. He absolutely did ratfuck Jimmy from the moment he passed the bar, and laid Chuck's suicide at Jimmy's feet to assuage his own guilt while offering Jimmy such lovely condolence prizes as the opportunity to sift through the ashes at the site of his brother's suicide, an opportunity to sit on a board of people who would never offer him a chance and, as soon as he had moved on from being Charles McGill's inferior brother, the job whose denial had defined his entire career. Plus, he's the poster child of corporate law and privilege, which I think is what she's really lashing out against. She clawed her way out of poverty and into an extremely lucrative job, which left her feeling completely empty and unsatisfied, while watching the one man who could match her hustle get hosed over by the same system.
