This is technically 70s but nevertheless i absolutely associate the CB radio craze with the early 80s anyway.

There was a followup to the song "Convoy" where they drive into the fuckin ocean and then well just listen:

That's pretty much the only Donnie Iris song anyone knows and there's a good reason for that, but his other work is very 80s.

The video got complaints about it being too "lesbian" for the like 3 seconds Laura Brannigan dances with another woman.

I was trying to remember what movie I heard this in, and it was Party Monster
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=876it-SdWHc

A movie that i guess takes place in the late 80s and early 90s but has music from bands that weren't active until the early 2000s, most notably Ladytrton, Miss Kitten and the Hacker, and Felix Da Housecat.

Thanks to Todd in the Shadows TIL that "Don't Worry Be Happy" and the Beach Boys "Kokomo" are BOTH from the Cocktail soundtrack, which I'm pretty sure makes it the most unholy LP of all time.

And the first song is by Starship without Grace Slick. :psyduck: I think this will now be my new standard answer whenever the topic of 'worst record of all time' comes up.

The archmage of unexpected stinks.

Slick seemed to have a natural sense of when to pass on starship projects. She's not in their appearance in the Star Wars holiday special either.

DW,BH has good melodic sense and a sense of irony that puts it well ahead of "Kokomo", IMO. If nothing else Bobby McFerrin's performance is always enjoyable. And if that's not enough for you, here's the inverted version

When I was in grade 5 (88-89) my teacher had a radio and TAPE DECK!! in our classroom.
We were allowed to bring in our own music to play so I would steal some of my brothers's tapes and bring that poo poo in, so would other people. But one thing that I had to listen to too much was the cocktail soundtrack. My Teacher liked it and I guess it was a decent trade off because we could listen to Tone Loc, Young M.C., Fine Young Cannibals and whatever.
As a fan of the Beach Boys, Kokomo is pretty much their only song that I legit dislike.

There are a few that I don't really care for that much, but I for-rizzles dislike the gently caress out of that song.

All my mom’s side of the family came to town for my wedding, and my mom decided we should go see The Beach Boys at the local fairgrounds. Mike Love didn’t like the sound levels or something because he started yelling at a tech guy, on mic, during “Kokomo.”

“Just loving FIX IT!” He said, followed by the most insincere “sorry” to the crowd. Most depressing show I’ve ever seen in my life.

I saw them play for their 50th anniversary your in 2012 and they all seemed energetic and in good spirits, but maybe they mostly hate each other irl. It was a pretty good show, or so I thought, for a bunch of dudes that were like 100 years old.

I remember seeing the Beach Boys play in the Astrodome after a baseball game. It was everything you could expect for free show from a band that was still touring just to cover alimony and rehab expenses.

Mike Love is 81. Brian Wilson and Bruce Johnston turn 80 this month and Al Jardine will be 80 later this year. Love's oldest child is 60+.

When the Smiley Smile message board was trying to hammer down the dates of Love's marriages years back, his oldest daughter posted that she wasn't sure how many times he'd been married. It's in the neighborhood of 5-7. One of Love's grandsons is (probably) also his first cousin once removed. Dennis Wilson married five times.

Depending on the Astrodome date, the touring money probably was going to Eugene Landy.

Why, yes, the Beach Boys history is completely trashy.

The pizza place down the street sells calzones, too. :v:

Little me used to scrounge for quarters and ride my hand-me-down bmx, with mismatched tires, across town for pink lemonade gum that retained its flavor for all of 15 seconds.

My parents would send me up the street every week to go buy the Sunday newspaper. They'd give me a dollar , and I could spend the remaining 50 cents on candy.

My go-to was watermelon Nerds, which were not only delicious but had the added bonus of the green dye turning your tongue pitch black if you ate the box in one go. Tasty AND I could gross out my older sister, what's not to love?

orange tic tacs are a fav since childhood and haven't changed much since then far as i can tell. the coke ones are ok but for a brief period there were cherry cola flavored ones and they kicked rear end. then they stopped making them. why must you deny me my treats.
