So, I don't know if this is helpful or not, but it helps me to remember that we aren't becoming horrible... we've been horrible for forever and are just becoming increasingly bad at hiding it. We have been in big trouble, so we are not currently in some worse situation, we're just more aware.

Do your best to survive in a hostile world and look for opportunities to make it better.

Helps me, anyhow. That, and a metric ton of privilege.

We've always been horrible, yes, but things are reaching critical mass to my eyes and ears. I do what you do, like you said, and try my best to survive and treat my fellow person with a modicum of respect and kindness no matter who they are, but there's less and less mileage to be gleaned through that approach and everyone seems to want some form of direct, big and immediate action that it's hard for me to imagine a good turnout with no real leaders in sight and how much people think the answers are found on the radio and FB feeds.

It feels like a balloon is about to pop and the tension in the air is absolutely palpable no matter how many sunsets or constellations I look at, tides I watch flow in or how cool I am to people. You can see the strain on their faces and often also a lot of anger. January 6th just about bothered me as much as 9/11. People are mean, getting meaner and, worse than anything I can say about that, seem to like it.

Believe in strength and endurance. Not the strength of a gun (necessarily), but your own personal being. Be prepared for less, be physically and mentally durable/capable.

Life is bleak and difficult and uncaring. It's weird for people to decry our modern life yet depend on it. This is certainly also me as well, I need asthma medicine, if I get sick I will eventually succumb and die without pharmaceutical intervention or personally undiscovered natural remedies. Unironically, "that's how they get you". We have the technology resources and wealth to support people, but can only do it in service to them being serfs and batteries for capital. I personally would rather we change course even if it means my demise, rather than this be both the future and end of humanity.

As far as solving problems and setting aside thr obvious material benefits of physical agency, people are more inclined to listen to somebody they assume or appraise as healthy/strong/attractive. To be completely machievellian, its easier and more constructive to coax people into the fold than to intimidate, beat, or kill them.

“The only possible reason for immigration is to supplant the white man!”

Uh? Cheap labor for our corporate masters so that they can continue to suppress wages?

That’s without getting into how providing for the motivated poor to come to America has resulted in innovation and mobility historically.

I assume many of the ‘white replacement’ types will tell you at length about their poor great grandpa who came over and worked his fingers to the bone to make a better life for his family.

The modern revisionists and reactionaries call us Stalinists, thinking that they insult us and, in fact, that is what they have in mind. But, on the contrary, they glorify us with this epithet; it is an honor for us to be Stalinists.

This is one of those situations where someone who ostensibly exalts the wonders of "free enterprise" comes up against the hard rock of "holy poo poo the logic of the market doesn't care about my skin color???"

And since they're opposed to socialism but also are big ol' racists, they have to explain why the market doesn't care about skin colors, so they resort to all sorts of contrivances. It usually ends up with blaming the Jews and pretending that white people are so glorious they can bend the laws of capitalism to their will by invoking phrases like "nationalist" or "America First."

A lot of these people not coincidentally have a fairytale version of capitalism, where every white man will own his own business (or could if not for "the globalists" or "the Jews" or whatever), where white families can find financial security in moving to rural areas and homeschooling their children away from the decadent hell that is urban life, etc., all the while being like "haha stupid leftists you don't understand how the world really works. :smug: "

Ted Nugent: Still a Huge rear end in a top hat

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/ted-nugent-donald-trump-supporters-violence/

quote:

Former Amboy Dukes member, Ted Nugent, has called for supporters of Donald Trump to seek violent retribution against their political “enemies”, who he named as “the Democrats and the Marxists and the Communists.”

The controversial rocker made the comments whilst performing at a Donald Trump rally in Austin, Texas on Saturday night, and has since been accused of hate speech.

“Think of what the enemies of America have done over the last 14 months,” Nugent said to the crowd. “They didn’t sneak into the White House — they lied, they cheated, they scammed, and every day the Democrats violate their sacred oath to the Constitution. And if you can’t impress you friends on that, they shouldn’t be your friends.”

“I love you people madly,” he continued, “But I’d love you more if you went forward and just went berserk on the skulls of the Democrats and the Marxists and the Communists.”

He’s benefited enormously from capitalism so at least from him it’s a logical, if deranged, rhetoric. The people who buy his tickets though? They got no excuse.

We literally have Rome the Vatican next door, kinda hard not to when your capital is Rome. The majority party until early 90s was called "Christian Democracy".

drat, that’s a hell of a mandate. I actually think it might have been equally popular at that time in the US. I have heard that abortion restricting laws were on their way out in the states prior to Roe, and the court thought they were slam dunking something so popular that it wouldn’t be controversial. But someone on the right wing figured out that the unborn were the perfect group to advocate for and basically started stirring up evangelicals and, here we are today.

Ireland was historically extremely catholic, which has created an ongoing problem of the church having far too much involvement in the education system and in owning hospitals, but the actual population is largely secular - church attendance has plummeted in the last 20 years. It was happening anyway, but all the abuse scandals that came out accelerated the process.

People still do stuff like church weddings, communions and confirmations - but that's mostly because hey, fancy clothes and a big party! The boring parts of religion are mostly ignored.

When we were finally given the chance to vote to make abortion legal, Yes won by a 2/3 majority. The No campaign was heavily funded by the US anti-choice crowd, and it still lost very very badly.

Correction, it was 68% to keep the law as is, I was reading the wrong line on wiki (4 referendum that session). Still a strong mandate.
That same session 88% of voters said no to the Radicali's proposal to, basically*, remove all compromises in the abortion law and make abortion always legal no questions asked.
*the actual proposal needed to be Sovereign Citizen tier legalese except it would actually work, because in Italy referendums can only abolish laws.

I've heard entirely too much Mark Levin over the last week, and I'm legitimately baffled as to why anyone listens to him, since he seems to have zero actual entertainment value.

Aside from having a worse radio voice than Ben Shapiro, the dude is also lazy as gently caress, since probably half of his actual content is just him pausing between sentences, repeating himself (sometimes more than once), asking if "Mister Producer" agrees with him, replaying bumper music, or interrupting audio clips to yell some version of "You idiot!" at random points in the middle of them.

For the five minutes an hour he actually says anything, it's just the same crap about everything being Marxist and/or Socialist, reading from/plugging one of his stupid books (about how everything is Marxist), or insisting that *news item* is proof that the "Democrat party will do anything for power!"

I can at least see why people find Ben Shapiro or Sean Hannity entertaining, but Mark Levin is just 180 minutes of "old man shreiks at cloud", so I'm baffled as to what the appeal is.
