It's hard knowing whatever they do we don't have Rick May to fill the soundbooth for a short video about it anymore.

Knowing Valve, if there is some kind of 'real' system, it's definitely going to be giving the community some kind of self-moderating ability. Which will definitely turn out okay and not at all like tacobot.

we're adding a new feature where you can "kick" the bots from the server, thus solving the problem forever

It'll be just one person from the old team making inconsequential changes that don't really solve anything, then getting bored and moving or being moved onto whatever never-to-be-released project is the Hot New Thing at Valve

a friend of mine just got a trade offer for his alien swarm hat, $200 worth of keys. apparently there's some bug with how the paint on them works but google isn't finding anything and all the listings I see are for basically nothing, any idea what happened?

There's a scam going around where people can trade using keys, use up one of the keys while the trade is going through, and get the rest of the trade back while still getting your items.

Maybe, but he actually got the keys and has sold most (maybe all by now) of them for around $200.

well mystery solved:quote:Basically when they released new team colored paints in 2011, something went wrong with the initial release and resulted in some items ending up like this where they only have blue paint and no red paint. To my knowledge, no one knows exactly why it happened, but it is very rare and extremely hard to track down items like this. In game, the item also only shows half paint and the paint only works on blu team. On red team, the item appears unpainted.

Ha, I love that TF2 items can glitch. I have a strange pyro cosmetic (the polar fleece) that I managed to stick a Specialised Killstreak kit onto back when they first came out.

TF2 never lost it. It did lose the ability to choose Valve Servers from the server browser, but you can still go to community servers from it. It’s listed in the “Community” button on the slash page. Due to the bot crisis community servers are having somewhat of a renaissance. During prime evening hours there are about 70 or so full servers with under 100 ping for me (east coast US) and another 100 or so of various levels of fill. Uncletopia are the closest to casual, but are no crit no random spread/damage. They also have better players than valve casual so they get a little sweaty at times. Skail has there casual servers (as well as their 24/7 and modded gameplay servers) that are basically the same as uncletopia with a much lower skill level, although still higher than casual. I’ll usually play there if I don’t want to try.(aka playing battle engineer, spy, or aggressive huntsman sniper) There are still a bunch of freak fortress(vs Saxon Hale), trade, x10, Orange, etc. servers too if that’s more your thing.

uncletopia is pretty good, though if you don't like payload you're gonna have a bad time because it seems like payload is all that's played there

I mainly play the KOTH/5CP and it’s definitely more sweaty than the PL servers. There’s a lot more people who know how to roll out and competent medics.

I think you could make a good merging of the different stages of thunder mountain by eliminating like 3ish of the shittier points across the 3 stages.

I don't like any part of Thunder Mountain. No part of it is any fun to me, not even the final tower! It's a mix of horrible cramped rooms and sniperiffic open areas in all the wrong combinations. I can't recall having a fun or close game on it. I'd be curious to see a remix of it that made it just a long 4 points map or something.

ArfJason posted:the tower climb stage of thundermountain might be one of the best videogame maps ever conceived This is true, but only if you're an engineer on offense. You can sentry jump from just outside the spawn door closest to the B flank route all the way up to the roof at the center of the map, rescue ranger a sentry and dispenser up there, and terrorize the entire RED team.

Thundermountain is two great lessons on how to build wide open spaces that aren't utterly dominated by snipers, sandwiching an object lesson in how to fail at that.

Maybe a version where scoring the payload doesn't end the round, you just earn a "point" for your team and things continue seamlesslly / indefinitely?

There are a few cartless 24/7 Highlander community servers. I’ve also seen a player destruction version of LazyPurples server, which seemed counter intuitive since people just camp where you load up bottles so no one fights most of the map.
