I like how pretty much every ability in the new Mario strikers has a just frame mechanic for extra power. I bet that game's gonna feel real spicy when you're getting good with all the timings.

Mmm sounds like Civ. Diving hard into Disco Elysium now that I have more time to devote to it and it’s so good still. Not a thing has been bad.

I wrote a bit on Spelunkey 2 and I’m getting serious FOMO or thinking something is wrong with me because I just can’t get into it. It’s fun enough but too punishing.

Civ 6 on the Switch has a bug where if your game file gets too big it crashes whenever you try save. As far as I’ve been able to tell there is literally no way to finish a game if you’re playing on a large map and get a couple hundred turns in.

I absolutely adored Spelunky 1, probably put 150 hours into it on 360 and another 75 on PC

I do like Spelunky 2 and feel like its a decent evolution of the first games style but as soon as I read the batshit crazy long winded full proper way to beat the game it put me off ever launching it again lmao

Spelunky 2 is tuned way too much for the benefit of the 0.1% of Spelunky players who found the true ending too easy. It's still fun, but not as compelling as Spelunky 1 as trying something you might get away with in the first game will be much more likely to kill you dead. Derek Yu has put out hit after hit, so hopefully they get a grip on the difficulty creep for the next game.

Oh that's interesting so it's like The Lost Levels to SMB 1, just for the very very good players. Maybe I should start with 1 then? Would it be somewhat less esoteric and punishing?

I think so, apparently even the porn games that are on Switch only show boobs, they can't show anything else because then it'd be AO, and wouldn't be able to be sold on the eshop.

Physical copies are usually completely uncensored, at least for some games. That means only physical ones can be uncensored, but the digital version can't.

That's an excellent analogy. Spelunky 1 is an unqualified recommendation, btw. Just an excellent game.

Spelunky 1 is perfect. From there, you go one of two ways, assuming you enjoyed it...

1. That was great, and I've had my fill.
2. What if more levels, more secrets, and higher starting difficulty?

Both reactions are valid, of course, but only the second will make you want 2.

In that case I won't take Spelunkey as a series off of my radar. Maybe 2 was just too much for me, but 1 will hit that sweet spot of doable and challenging.

Hey so I'm playing the Switch's best game, Picross. I'm at something like #105 in the 15x15 puzzles and I'm totally stuck with a giant block of blank space and only small numbers to work with so I gotta ask: Do the later puzzles turn into guess and check? I really don't feel like throwing placeholder marks to run the puzzle and see if it works.

Regardless, whoever designs these is a magic genius. Until lately there'd be like 1 breadcrumb at a time and it's like how the hell do you plan one of these??

It's just a nice chill game. I'm cruising through year 2 with my partner in Spring, and my own playthrough I lost steam after getting married in the Fall. Still I'm working on the post-game stuff at my own pace and it's chill.

The puzzles aren't guess and check. In principle, they are all deterministically solvable. Even if they don't seem like it sometimes :v:

Generally when I find myself utterly unable to see what the next move or two is, I generally delete my progress up to that point, and try again later. It is amazing how often a puzzle that totally stumped me the first time was a breeze the second time. Though to be sure, some puzzles are just utter bastards, no matter how often you try them :v:

Edit: If you post a snippet of the current state of the puzzle in question, you'll be sure to get a helpful clue or two.

No it isn’t. Having an encrypted copy of 2FA accounts stored in a cloud service is perfectly fine level of security for almost everything.
The problem is that if someone obtains your seed they can duplicate the token and masquerade as you without your knowledge. Encrypted backups are great, but it still fundamentally reduces the security to 1FA in that the seeds can be obtained by "something you know", not "something you have".

YOLOsubmarine posted:

Even RSA tokens can be re-provisioned if they’re lost.
This is functionally equivalent to backup codes and invalidates the first token--so something that can't be done without knowledge of the token holder.

2FA that is tied to a single device with no recovery method is only more secure if you don’t think availability is also a pillar of good security.

I don’t want to continue the derail any further but I do want to clarify for those who are confused about the best way to be secure with 2FA that this isn’t correct, at least where Authy is concerned. You can’t access the encrypted cloud backup of a users tokens with just the password. You need to authenticate first. Authy uses your phone number as your identity and you authenticate via either SMS, voice, or through another Authy app that is already authenticated. You have to prove that you still have possession of the original second factor (or have cloned the SIM) to get access to the tokens on another device.

And Authy will allow you to disable multi-device access so once you’ve set it up on your primary device and a backup device like a tablet or desktop you can prevent any further devices from authenticating to your account, disabling access to your encrypted tokens entirely for all but those two devices. This is their recommended best practice.

Anyway, Triangle Strategy is really good and since finished it and Elden Ring I’m struggling to find anything else I want to play. Playing those back to back really ruined other games for a while.
