He was their leading receiver last year (no great fear but whatever) and they cut the other TE that was getting paid. Also Stefanski loves a TE

Greg Olsen seems fine and good and really wanted this job and worked for it, which is very cool.

But it strikes me that we're doing this business all wrong when a guy who is just barely retired is going to be your top announcer. While someone poached Troy Aikman to the tune of a billion dollars or whatever to mutter about things incoherently every week.

Like, it just seems as though maybe you can find new, exciting or at least not antagonistically dumb guys and don't need to stick with these horrible announcers who make you search for the mute button constantly.

None of it has ever made sense. TV executives think the way you add prestige to a football broadcast is with big names, but no viewer is tuning in because of the commentators - they're completely irrelevant to the draw of the product. So why are they spending this money??? Do they literally think more people are going to watch MNF because of Aikman and Buck? All viewers care about is the game.

Get rid of all the Aikman's and just fill the booths with Tirico's.

The way I’ve heard it explained is that the viewer isn’t the customer for the NFL, the networks are.

And the networks care a lot about who is on the broadcast team. Joe Buck’s move especially changed around a lot of scheduling and caused networks to shuffle and trade around entire week calendars of programming.

The networks are the ones hiring the broadcast team, not the NFL.

I've heard lots of people turn to a different game because they hate the announcer, but usually for non-NFL games where the stream/broadcast might be getting the local homer team but fewer turn TO a game they wouldn't watch otherwise because they love the announcers.

Actually, does picking the Manning cast over the regular announcers count? It's technically watching for the broadcast team, but I'd probably have the regular game on anyways.

Yeah I hear you there @ Buck. I don’t mind Michaels and Collinsworth either. Honestly I never really understood the hate for Collinsworth in general. I agreed with it for a bit and then realized I was just always happy to hear him on a game.
