You don't get this kind of bollocks with the Premier Inn. Some Airbnbs are someone's actual home with their personal belongings in - not so much now as they used to be and are meant to be, but still sometimes. I don't mind those people being a bit more security conscious than a big chain business that can absorb the cost of theft or damages more easily.

Yeah if you were doing that to a rental property that's hosed up (as is letting it) but if it's your house then arguably you are taking business away from other airbnb people, which is funny. Certainly gently caress that from a "let's have weirdos stay over where I live" aspect though.

Yes, her birthday is twice a year and one of those everyone in the Commonwealth who still has her as queen gets the day off except for the UK for reasons.

Nah, AirBnBs just massively distort the rental market in a way I'm not comfortable with during a massive rental crisis. Plus, I have no interest in catering to strangers, by all accounts from people I know who've done it you just end up with a bunch of Germans leaving you lovely reviews because you didn't make them poached eggs in the morning. The Jubilee is two days off because her birthday national holiday was moved to make a longer long weekend. Normally it would be next week (her actual birthday was two weeks ago)

Because why the gently caress would you want strangers cutting about your house, sounds like a loving nightmare? Also you're making money for AirBnB which is a lovely company that was grossly inflated the rental market in far too many places. Anyway, Happy Jubilee. https://twitter.com/officialcharts/status/1531644178739957761?s=20&t=x6nvTTsldvDTeXfG1l-dXg

I occasionally sleep like dracula, if I can pull it off it's actually the best way to sleep. Also once woke up sitting straight up in bed so there is a nonzero possibility that I might be able to levitate up out of bed like dracula also.

We stayed in an airbnb in Copenhagen when we went on hol there for a week. The apartment was the home of a sexologist (who apparently somewhat often appears on Danish TV, Radio etc.) and it was the first time they'd rented it out, so there were a LOT of books (and art etc.) about vaginas. Not quite an orgy set but quite interesting/cool. Also, the main thing that made us choose that one was that they also had 2 cats, which was great, as we didn't have our own cats at the time. I figured it was potentially alright because she was just renting out her main living space, and staying with her boyfriend but yeah, this was a while ago and I'm more politically aware now and not a fan of airbnb as a company.

Maybe I should just take my place against the wall now, but I think the overall Airbnb experience is pretty good. Or it has been for me, anyway. You get to stay in unusual and cheap places, sometimes, and the only real function of the review system is just to weed out who the wankers are. I've only ever stayed in someone's actual spare bedroom once, and that was really nice. It's a weird but pleasant experience to be in someone's home and to socialise with them when you've never met them before. We had a lovely chat, then left very warm reviews for each other like were in an episode of Black Mirror.

I used (still use) AirBnB a lot whenever I couldn't afford a hotel. Which is pretty often, if you need to travel for more than a weekend for personal reasons (i.e. not holidays or work reimbursing it) it's not feasible to spend £80+ a day on a hotel stay. Don't know about the ethics of it, was less of a choice and more of a necessity. Private Speech fucked around with this message at 14:03 on Jun 1, 2022 |
