I can’t figure out how some of these even work. I tired using one of the ones that fills in text, but it just fails to run. Same with a lot of the image ones. I must just be breaking them somehow without knowing?

A neat example I found of tweaking generated images to get a more specific effect start off with a general idea  pick the one with best composition for what you want  I don't like that hobbes, let's select that area and generate a different one  this one is better  but now the face on our calvin is kinda awful. Let's redo the face  and spikify the hair  make it even spikier  good enough  let's tweak hobbes's face  final:

I'm not sure why that was the case, considering that most of these generators are within cloud services, but nonetheless.
