The through line of the prequels is way better the sequels, regardless of what you might say about the execution. If you just plot out the basic beats of the PT it sounds like a good story and Anakin has a strong tragic arc. And Lucas was willing to go back to old adventure serials to come up with new set pieces not yet seen in Star Wars, such as the podracing or the big gladiator arena etc. The execution dragged it down with it's stilted dialogue, ugly CGI, and flat cinematography (mostly shot to match the ugly CGI). I don't really like them but I like idea of them I guess.

The sequel trilogy suffers from both an incoherent plot and poor execution. The war between the Resistance and the First Order never makes sense and then each entry retcons the status quo, the characters are shallow and don't have real arcs bc Abrams and Johnson disagreed on what the story even was, and the whole thing just recycles the iconography of the original trilogy without inventing anything new. And then the execution sucks because it's full of MCU soy quips that don't fit the series, Abrams mystery box poo poo, etc. Just garbage movies. But hey, the cgi is better!

The prequels weren't great, but had some nice ideas and gave people plenty of clay to work with.

Except for Rogue One, The Disney sequels were empty husks that collapsed at the slightest touch.

So, this lady is mad that a Disney film franchise based on an animatronic ride did not prominently feature slavery

And she is so mad about the lead actor winning a court case against his ex-wife that she has decided it is his fault

this is the basic format of 90% of movie and tv discourse on twitter

- pick a buzzy news story
- write a deranged tweet that accuses the principals in the story of insensitively treating some heavy duty social issue
- when people point out that your tweet makes no sense or that the principals acted the same as 99.9% of Americans, accuse them of being on the wrong side of said issue. it helps if you say "how are you not getting this" at some point

Watched Larisa Shepitko's Wings. Fantastic movie which would probably be fun to contrast with the new Top Gun since both have an aging fighter pilot as the main character. It sucks that Shepitko died so young because The Ascent is a masterpiece.

Two big full produced numbers with like choreography and stuff (one of which is about violent classism), one concert track, a bunch of little incidental stuff.

I'm just baffled by her going for Pirates when Lone Ranger is right loving there, Depp agreeing to play Tonto was bad enough but that goddamn facepaint was genuinely hosed up. Like, ScarJo got some poo poo for doing GitS but at least she wasn't squinting and grunting like Mickey Rooney the whole time.

SCENE: You are the first person in your family to go to college, and with some lucky breaks, scholarships, financial aid, your parents' life's savings, and a hefty loan, you have gone all the way to Stanford! Your high school debate coach, whom you consider a mentor and role model and who wrote your letter of rec, has sent you an email asking how your studies are going. Today, your pre-law professor spent the entire lecture period talking about this:
