There's a haint in the foothills of NC; the haint of the #3 chevy. The rich have formed a holy alliance to exorcise it but they'll never fucking catch him.

Crazy how vinegar syndrome can get 1000 people to buy a random Jess Franco movie that was filmed in a French hotel room for 20 bucks on a weekend. Life is wild.

In fairness it's less that they got 1000 people to buy it and more that the 1000 people who'd buy it are exactly the people who'd be on that website.

$25,490 in under a full day (the total of 1000 purchases of the film sold for $25.49) is still $25,490 in under a full day, regardless of how negatively you may want to try spinning it. Still a big deal for the site, still a big deal for a sale (that isn't even their biggest of the year traditionally), still a big deal in favor of the people determined to prove the "physical media is dead and done" cries wrong

Physical media isn't dead it's just for nerds now instead of everybody because the normies just stream everything.

Normies also aren't watching Tammy and the T-Rex or Jess Franco porn movies.

Also I can't help but feel like a lot of the people buying up the limited, never-to-be-printed-again VinSyn blu-rays aren't collectors or porn aficionados but just your regular flippers, scalpers and speculators. For every niche hobby you get a swarm of loving parasites trying to ruin everybody's fun to make a buck.

I definitely think that the speculators have started showing up in the last few years. Even 4 years ago you'd see some of the slips take 2 years to sell out.

Also why it pays to be a subscriber :)

There's definitely been a move in all niche/nerdy stuff to make everything "Only 1000 copies! Sale begins at midnight! Act Now!" Such items, of course, immediately sell out. It's annoying and arguably preys both on FOMO and forcing people to make quick decisions under pressure.

And yeah, there is also an increasing problem of speculators buying up poo poo to try and flip it.

I mean, they can still make things in limited quantities, but it's the promotion of them as being in limited quantities that I have a problem with. The only reason you do that is to drive up sales, and then drive the aftermarket where people who "missed out" are still trying to acquire the thing they wanted but at inflated prices.

Even if that’s true, there wouldn’t be flippers if there weren’t people willing to buy things from those flippers.

Yeah but collectors of all sorts can't help themselves. Look at this thread. And before anyone says anything, I'm not saying I'm innocent of this AT ALL. It's just records for me.

As of August the only Kubricks left without a UHD will be Barry Lyndon, Lolita, and Eyes Wide Shut. Does Criterion still have the rights to Barry Lyndon?

I don't know, but it would feel foolish for Criterion to not put Barry Lyndon on 4k UHD. I know they've got a lot of other strong contenders and lesser-knowns, and they're being conservative with getting into the 4k UHD market, but that one seems like a no-brainer with the costumes and the natural lighting.

That is a 6 disc set, and it has the Final Cut, Original 1979 Cut, and Redux cut all on 4k UHD. Plus a blu-ray of special features, a blu-ray of Hearts of Darkness documentary, and two blu-rays with all three cuts of the movie.

So you can watch all three and decide which you like yourself! It's a great set at a great price.

From what I remember and have read:

I like the theatrical version most.

The Final Cut is new to the 4k UHD, and is shorter than Redux by about 20 minutes, but includes stuff that was in Redux.

Redux is almost an hour longer than the original, and is mostly known for including a long sub-plot about a French plantation and a sub-plot about Playboy Playmates.

I would say you should watch the theatrical version first, and then Final Cut on a rewatch, and then Redux if you want to see even more on a later rewatch.

Yea Heat has been pretty cheap on blu ray for a while now. I think I got my blu ray for like $8 a few years ago.

A lot of the time that's how I do my little calculation on whether or not I can justify upgrading to a UHD. If the blu ray was cheap, and I've watched it a bunch of times, therefore getting my "money's worth", I can give myself permission to upgrade.

That's fair.

The poster does seems like a legit piece by Creepy Duck, who has done work for some boutique labels as well as Amazon, and it's not listed on their site (so it wasn't stolen for the tweet, and it's weird that they were tagged), but I can't find anyone else talking about it (or where someone would have grabbed that poster design).

edit: I found out where Creepy Duck posted it in October, so maybe it was stolen and they were just tagged to seem legit.

Plus they introduced me to The Uncanny (excellent cat-themed british horror anthology with Peter Cushing, Susan Penhaligon, Donald Pleasance, and Samantha Eggar) and, through the folk horror box set, Eyes of Fire & Clear Cut.
