Lucifer had perhaps the stupidest premise of all time (the literal Christian devil helps the LAPD solve crimes) and the 3 seasons on Netflix were pretty great so hopefully the Sandman will continue the tradition of Neil Gaiman adaptions being good.

I'm the exact opposite, weed increases my immersion and makes me less judgemental. It's the only way I can watch horror movies.

Shrooms make me hyper aware of how fake everything is though.

I can't speak for Lucifer but in early covid WFH delirium I watched the first ten seasons of Supernatural and it started as a procedural but they had to keep upping the ante so by the time I stopped watching they were both unkillable godmen feared by both heaven and hell

It really messed up the stakes when they would have to fight a random vampire or something

The Dresden Files show was cheesy (because the source material is cheesy) but drat if Wizard Private Investigator doesn't sound like a winning idea. Maybe Supernatural had already sucked up all the potential audience.

I only watched this because it's a movie that a dear, dear person of mine wanted to see one day, but then she got cancer and died, and I guess I've had it on my list forever and it just popped into my head today. I miss you dude!

Pretty depressing movie based on the famous depressing book (which not as good as Lord of the Rings, but that's ok - we can have more than one book).

I read the book years ago so the structure is hazy in my mind. The movie seems to hit the high points, but the context of many scenes was missing or underexplained, anyone who hasn't read the book might be confused at times. Keeps some of the social commentary (maybe the monster is US! etc etc), and I think it changes some minor details, but it's a decent adaptation. The whole psychological angle is not really explored, things just happen.

It looks "ok" visually, apparently the director was a theater/plays genius, but to be honest those skills don't seem to translate very well to film. The editing could've been much better, particularly the chase scenes, or running through the jungle. I wonder if their scenery was limited, or the camera was difficult to handle. Or maybe they were annoyed at having to film with so many child actors. Children! :argh:

I read all of the kids were just regular people, no actors. Just plucked from their hometown and dropped into a film set. And you know what? They are all pretty good, better than the average Hollywood kid star.

By the way, these kids are skinny! I'm guessing they were just normal kids for their time but wow, some even have abs! I felt fat. Maybe because I'm pretty fat. Minus a whole mark for making me feel like a fatass. You've got me again, William Goulding! I hear you chuckling at my misery

So anyway, I award this 2.5 Comfys out of 5, and a listen of this Offspring song, because these kids are pretty "fly"

Out of curiosity I began watching the 1990's version, it's really bad. They add a CAPTAIN BENSON character just because... gently caress the book? It makes the 1963 version a lot better in comparison

Yeah the 90s version doesn't hold up well at all. Making them marine cadets baffles the mind that they were lost at sea for months without a thousand recce flights going on to search for the., and it completely excludes the background of a potential nuclear war going on.
