I think the weirdo dems you are talking about are the twitter/msnbc set which aren't that large in numbers they just have outsized voices in the media and control the primaries. Basically, everyone else is pro-hanging politicians even in the rural South where they might have a few Republican favorites but a lot more RINOs on their hit list.
