I mean the problem is she seems to have lied way more than necessary to protect herself.

Presenting it as easy seems unnecessary for that and is absolutely misleading

Maybe there was too much in this case but either way preempting her in a public setting to "set the record straight" is just a dogshit partner mentality. If the lie isn't doing harm, just roll with it and ask later.

I don't think he should have interrupted to correct her, she's your partner and the mother of your child and you need to trust her enough to back her up in a situation like that. Talk to her afterwards if you want, but don't jump in and talk over her in front of her friends. That said per the (arguably maybe biased) story she was only teased for lying and not for what actually happened during the birth. I agree that her lying about what she went through was potentially damaging and contributes to a harmful culture, but I also don't know if I can really fault her for it either given her situation.

That said, congratulations on your upcoming child. All births are natural, no matter the circumstances. If you want to talk about birth stories I'm happy to share my experiences as a father of 2 via PM.

Enjoy cleaning/replacing everything the dog pisses/shits/chews on, and hope none of it's expensive (all baby stuff is expensive). Enjoy spending ~$50 month on food, and hundreds to thousands every few months on vet care. Enjoy knowing if you want to go somewhere, even for just a day or overnight, you now have to find someone to watch the dog or kennel the dog. It'll be fun!

They're not going to be any kind of dog owner, they already gave it away to someone who can take proper care of it and that's why the giver called them an rear end in a top hat

They did the most responsible thing and rehomed the dog they knew they wouldn't be able to care for.

Dogs are magical perfect friends who have complex needs and who need families who can take care of them

My own perfect sweet boy got out into our back garden for 30 seconds today, and managed to rub his forehead in cat poo poo.
He's a sweet darling good boy but his head now smells like cat poo poo.
I just had to wash my dogs head in baby shampoo because it was entirely smeared in cat poo poo, and that is 100% normal dog behaviour.

I have a 22 year old parrot, and she is absolutely less weird and foolish than the dog.
She loves the dog too, but she also thinks he's as dumb as poo poo.

Also UK/Polish dynamic. I didn't learn this until I made some Polish friends living in the UK but apparently it's a whole "thing" over there atm. Dumb and hosed up. OP there was definitely being stereotypically racist, like one of those Brits who vacations in Spain yet still complains about all the brown people there.

Why do a lot of the English have such a hate boner for the Polish? Are they the wrong type of white?

E:

I believe the OP is not from the UK, as they stayed there during vacation instead of going back home, and someone pointed out they don'r spell certain words the way someone from the UK would.

Yes. The stereotypical "taking our jerbs" abused immigrant worker in England is Polish like the US bigots view Mexicans. Generally anything east of Germany is the wrong kind of White. The west side of the continent is disliked as well, but they usually retreat to historical justifications for that bigotry. YTA. My wife is due next week and the pressure she feels from friends, social media, and female family members to avoid "unnatural" birth plans is absolutely real. She harms no one by fibbing and maintains her social credibility with people who never need to know the truth anyway. What this guy did is equivalent to interrupting a story about how much she loved her visit to Mexico to say "yeah but don't forget about that weekend you had it coming out of both ends and couldn't leave the hotel, I had to climb the pyramid myself lol". Also this guy assuming his wife forgot about her childbirth experience because of hormones or whatever and helpfully mansplaining her birth to her is just awful. Do not publicly correct your partner unless not doing so is going to cause some kind of harm down the line.

I'm going to quote a bit that I think is important:

quote:

My wife invited over her girlfriends and since they are officially all moms, they started talking about their birth stories. I heard some horrific things, and then we got to my wife.

This suggests to me that all of the other moms were already talking about their "unnatural" births. She decided that she wanted to be the only one with a "natural" birth story

Thus, I believe everyone sucks here: the wife for lying to her friends, and the husband for snitching

They're sort of settling in now because most people have had a Polish coworker and it's tough for the press to sell them as being lazy benefit stealers when you can see them working twenty hours of overtime a week. We're all about dehumanising Romanians now.

Also, immigration isn't a problem now Brexit has happened. The actual rate of immigration has hardly changed, yes, but collectively the public opinion is that its 2022, we've taken our country back, and that's all sorted out now.

It honestly almost sounds like the wife was bragging. Everyone else is telling their horror stories and she's all "Well mine was both natural and super easy!" I don't know how anyone is getting "she was facing social pressure to have a perfect natural birth" out of that.

(she still didn't have to talk about it if she didn't want, but that's really an awful strategy if she just wanted them to pass over her.)

AITA for returning the money my husband took from my family for attending our cookout?

quote:

For context: My f28 husband m33 comes from a wealthy family and he himself has inherited a number of assets from his relatives. One of them is this huge house (where we live right now) with a pool and a huge backyard with lots of features.

We decided to host our first cookout after we got married (7 months ago) and we invited both his and my family. That was on friday, both families came and we had lots of fun then everyone went home later.

I then got a phonecall from mom and she didn't sound okay. She asked wether or not my husband took money from his family before they attended the cookout. I was confused I asked what she was talking about and she told me that my husband charged every single person from my side of family who attended the event $25 dollars. I was utterly shocked and very angry and felt like this has legitimately damaged my relationship with most of my family because, almost all of them came over. not just that, but he got $275 dollars from them.

I was so livid I hung up the phone and confronted him immediately. He told me my family got to "enjoy" the space and view and said that I should think of it as a "resort" cookout since this house has lots of luxuries. I told him it was a horrible thing for him to do and that what made it worse is the fact the his family didn't pay like mine had to. He laughed then reminded me that his family gave him this house. I demanded he give the money back but he said no and that he won't even give it to me since the house is technically his.

I went and took the money and gave everyone who paid their money back with a sincere apology from me. My husband found out and flipped out at me calling what I did an overstepping and disrespectful. I told him he shouldn't have taken money from my family for being guests at our house, but he corrected me saying it's his house and said that he'd bet my family had never got to attend a cookout at a house like this and that it was just $25 dollars but I disrespected him and went behind his back and took money that wasn't mine.

We stopped talking after this argument and he keeps venting to his mom about me taking "his" money that he earned his own way.
