It's not just features being taken out, cars are also getting horribly expensive there.

The loaf now starts around $21k USD, the top trim is around $26k USD

You do get incredible build quality for that though.

Even that lovely Granta is over $13k at this point. More than median wage. The Russian people are in for decades of pain and half of them are still waving their new nazi Z flag, proud of their war criminals.

There was a 24 hour endurance race that finished today, in case you missed it. It was pretty great being back after a couple of years.

I am thinking about going next year with all those new hypercars in the field, do you have any suggestions for a first time goer?

I do, but I am far too wasted rn to summarize. I will endeavour to help in the coming days. Next year is going to be epic. 100 year anniversary. Tickets are released in Jan or Feb, so definely jump on them asap. Grandstands are unnecessary, but maybe nice for a first timer. Camp sites fill up fast. When I'm in better shape I'll try posting a thread.

Thanks much appreciated, I hope to go to Monza next month to see the new Peugeot in action but that's just a few train stops from here, not the big trip that LeMans is going to be.

I feel like the hearse, Chrysler, and F-250 at the end are cheating a bit, but I will forgive them for being something they were not when they were first built. The various small Toyotas and Hondas with knobbies are right in line, not to mention lightly modified BMWs. I love the MB sedan.
I want to try this in either a lifted Crown Vic or a lifted Chrysler minivan. Maybe an Astro van. I like the van idea so I don't have to pitch a damned tent every night.

That lifted 58 Plymouth (I think?) makes me a little sad, but I console myself with the thought that it was probably a basketcase anyway, and now it will live/die gloriously rather than rusting away in a field somewhere.

WUT.
i have a hard time believing any of those cars are $500 cars, even before modification. hell, with tires and fuel i doubt any of them are under $5000, if they're all road legal

that isnt the one where the organizers can just yoink your poo poo for $500 for any/no reason, is it?

As Nero Danced
Sep 3, 2009

Alright, let's do this
I think you're allowed to part it out, like gutting the interior and selling body parts and whatnot to get the price down to 500, but I suspect it's more about the spirit of the rules rather than the letter. As long as it's a piece of poo poo car on it's last leg.

Gambler doesn't have a rule like Lemons used to, where drivers could vote for another car to be crushed for breaking the rules, does it? I think that was done away with because it was getting abused to punish teams that were just performing well rather than actual cheaters.

Similar to 24 Hours of Lemons. Thing is with the way car prices have gone insane it is not really enforced unless you are being overtly lovely. There is a 996 running with a Beetle engine in the back and you can’t find a 996 shell for $500 but because it is a funny gimmick they get a pass.
