FWIW it's an optional challenge boss. It looks tedious to me, and I really enjoyed the nine sols demo.

There's also a regular dodge roll if that's more your steez. Just seeing optimal play in motion probably doesn't get across how good it feels; the parry/block window is generous enough that it doesn't feel laborious, there's a a natural-feeling flow to it all. It doesn't feel any more tedious than, say, pressing an attack button.

I don't think the answer to "hitting the iframe button 50 times in a row looks boring" is that there's a second iframe button with more generous timings. Nine Sols looks like it controls very well, but the player in that video just sits in the boss' face attacking the entire time. I find the positioning based combat of f.e. Hollow Knight with its limited iframes a lot more interesting.

Uh does anyone mind quickly checking if the music is on in my demo?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1492750/Mega_Knockdown/

I saw a YouTube video of someone playing it and the music was off. I'm not sure if I somehow set it to be muted by default, or if they turned it down on purpose.

Just downloaded it and it's working fine for me in the menu, tutorial and arcade, maybe they were worried about copyrighted music?

Awesome. I'm guessing that's it. Thanks for checking, I wasn't sure if maybe my own sound settings were propagating to the demo build somehow.

What did the updates do for PC? I was playing it on Steam Deck and once it updated I had to turn some settings down because it tanked the frame rate a bit.

on pc the main thing is they added the raytracing features from RE:Village

but to do that they had to update the renderer from DX11 to DX12, which might affect performance for better or worse even if you leave RT disabled

it also raised the min spec of the game which people still clinging to 2012 GPUs are mad about because the game no longer works when it did before

Yes the Steam discussions for the game is an absolute cesspool now, as opposed to it just being contained to the artwork section which apparently exists solely to post R34 porn. It's hard to tell if people are genuinely upset about DX11 going away and new performance issues or if everybody's just mad their nude mods are now out of date. Seems like a mixed bag.

Really just the ray tracing, I think they added support for 3d audio too?

....What? Did you see a different video than I did? The player spent the entire two short minutes mashing the attack key in there apart from the 10 second intermission in the middle. Would it have been better if the player slowed down to use dodges or blocks? Or maybe that the bosses attacks don't matter at all? Like, what on earth would be a good boss fight with zero tedium by your definition?

I think their problem is that the player doesn't really have to move much in that fight, but I feel like that's kind of an uncharitable reading. For a demo that only gives you the baseline abilities it makes sense to include a relatively simple boss, and since it's a centaur that runs around the easiest strategy is to let him run to you. I'm assuming the people at the top of the leaderboard are way more active in chasing him down.

I'm just gonna write this off as different strokes for different folks and stop being so defensive, but man, when the first reply to your effortpost about a demo you really liked was "looks tedious"... :v:

They already use Steam's beta brances for dev/QA internally (might have to scroll down a bit). It would've been very easy for them to publish the last good one as an optional public branch. There must be some miscommunication between the developers and whoever is maintaining the Steam store.

It just looks about 60 seconds too long. Otherwise was fine. I feel like a boss fight that makes you prove you can do the cycle about 5 times is alright. After that it's tedium.

To go quickly is foolish. To go slowly is prudent. Not to go; that is wisdom.
I'm having a lot of fun with the XFiles mod for the original XCOM, but unless it throws some curveballs at me I'm already threading familiar ground. It seems that the Piratez mod is an even more ambitious conversion but, well, tits... Anime, low pixelated softcore tits, but very annoying.

A question I have never thought I'd ask: Is there a censor mod or something to make it less of a 14 year old wet dream?

Alternatively, is the 40k mod worth it or is it just a reskin?

No censor mod and if you'll ask for one on their discords you'll get banned. You can edit the graphics files yourself if you want to though. The 40k mod when I tried it was interesting but incredibly difficult.

Maybe something is wrong with me, but I enjoyed the Fashion Police Squad demo. The humor doesn't work at all so I just skipped through all the dialogue, but it's a fun retro-style arena shooter that controls well and isn't in the usual grimy setting since you're not killing monsters, you're fixing the bad clothing choices of people with your magic guns. There's a lot of optional platforming challenges to get to secret areas, also, if you happen to enjoy that sort of thing like I do.

It sounds like it's for worse. This is only going to affect people on low-end machines, Steam Deck, or with mods.

There is some way to get the DX11 version out of the repos still.

Clinging to old GPUs is incredibly common for a huge swathe of the PC gaming audience given that we've been in like a five year stretch of every new video card either being completely unavailable, available only in incredibly limited quantities if you haunt online storefronts mashing F5 every day, or being scalped to 500% MSRP and we're only now finally starting to see prices begin to settle to something remotely reasonable.

Seems like an incredibly stupid decision to make, honestly.

For the download, click Releases on the right. There's a readme on the page and a bunch of HowTos on YouTube. I don't know what the process is like for Steam Deck users.
