https://insideevs.com/news/592075/ford-mustang-mache-safety-recall-stop-sale/

quote:

The Ford memo explains that the Mustang Mach-E's primary high voltage battery contactors could overheat. If it happens, it could cause "an open contactor or welding condition," which may lead to the contactors welding shut while the car is in motion. Owners of affected vehicles may be alerted by a powertrain malfunction warning light the next time they drive, and the Mach-E could fail to start.

The vehicle may also display "Stop Safely Now" on the gauge cluster, and a total and immediate loss of power could follow. Ford says the Mach-E will simply coast to a stop. However, all 12-volt systems, including the power brakes and steering, should remain functional.

This is the new Escalade V with the 6.2supercharged v8.

This thing is awesome. A bunch of reviews on it have hit youtube the last couple days. Cadillac kills me on some of their interior quality though. 150K car and you get the same cheap rear end buttons in some places as on a 25K car.

How did it take GM 20 years to put a supercharged V8 into an Escalade?

Are the people buying $150K SUVs really dissuaded by $5/gal+ prices?

The new $250k Ultimate Edition Range Rover has the same switch gear as the cheaper ones but has put little rings of aluminium on the ends of the stalks leaving the rest the same cheap looking black plastic. Quarter of a million dollar car.

No loving way. I'd bet that the Grand Wagoneer is going to sell every one they manage to build, and it's landing at a hefty 15MPG.

I honestly think that if interest rates all get forced up high enough that new car loans are at 5,6,7% that's going to be a bigger hit to new gigantic truck sales than high gas prices.

On the flip side, it adds value to the 25k car if the switchgear came from the 150k car! :shepspends:

I bet someone in GM actually made this argument.

I agree with this. The era of cheap money has made things like the 75K F-150 palpable because people could borrow that 75K for sub 2% APR. I'm guilty of taking advantage myself. The lease on my expedition is an effective apr of like 1.49% I think. I probably wouldn't have leased the vehicle without that low finance charge.

Ford mentioned in a recent article that Ford Credit is starting to see an uptick in late payments on their vehicle loans, which is usually a precursor for rough times ahead.

It won't stop them from buying it, but it also won't prevent them from complaining about how a tank costs $200 to fill.

All of the ugly with none of the practicality. Where exactly are sportsbacks actually good?

It could also be argued that the huge trunk lid makes the *backs more practical than SW. You can lean in all the way in the trunk, could even stand or grouch in the trunk when lifting something heavy. How often do you really need the full box space, the big opening is what you need to throw those annoyingly shaped objects in there. I could transport a full size couchbed on my liftback, the only issue was that that the wooden frame was 10 cm from my head.

Liftbacks often also have a proper sized wiper instead of the tiny stumps on SWs and SUVs. And you don't even need it as much since the window doesn't get as dirty.

At the end of the day a station wagon isn't that much more practical than a sedan, as my clubmate realized when he got tired of cramming all the tools he needs as a hobby mechanic around an airfield in a Lexus RX SUV, and upgraded to a full size M-B Sprinter. Walkthrough trunk, metal shelves on both walls, workbench, 6kW inverter, what more do you need from a car.

Ok, now you have to post a pic of yourself standing in your sportback trunk.

Did you just downplay wagon practicality by contrasting SUV (CUV really) with a full sized van? :psyduck:

I'll fully admit to my own blasphemy in that I think crossovers are just tall station wagons, but I still wish we had proper full length rear cargo areas instead.

Agree. They are not fun for anyone. They drive like poo poo due to the inevitable compromises, and they enable middle class dad to make terrible decisions about both driving and buying. And parking. And etc. They pollute the entirety of existence, from the smallest fleeting moment to the entirety of the globe.

Something the size of an Escalade / Grand Wagoneer offends me on a visceral level while I'm somehow completely OK with say, a Cayenne Turbo, which is even more expensive and I bet somehow even less efficient.

I'm still struggling to decide if I want to keep & mod my E91 long term or just stick with my original plan of hold onto it until I can get into something more modern. I've been tempted to do the same with a mazda6 wagon with the mazdaspeed powertrain, but I know I'd be in way over my head with that swap and I'd be better off with a turbo subaru, but man I want it :sigh:
