The US ran thousands of missions trying to both poison the jungle so it would die and seed the clouds above the jungle so it would rain more and be harder to travel the Ho Chi Minh trail. The nuke is not insane or far fetched at all, they already did about everything you can short of a nuke.

Strategic bombing wasn't all that effective in WW2, so naturally they decided to double down on the strategic bombing. It was even less effective and a bigger waste of resources in Vietnam.

AOC getting outmaneuvered on gaming when she's the Twitch politician by Ted loving Cruz is glorious. He's in the process of organising a discussion with one of the largest streamers to talk through pay to win in videogames and what the government can do to help poor abused gamers. It's so loving easy but the Dems are in deep with the NSA and CIA plants at the games studios and don't want to get them offside lol.

by the end of ww2 they were kinda starting to figure out you had to target rail yards and other giant targets where bombs are guaranteed to do damage wherever they fall and gently caress up production of basically everything, but yeah most of the war was just dumping bombs in the general vicinity of factories. of course there's literally none of this in vietnam since you're fighting against guerillas and other small, dispersed and highly mobile forces that don't rely on massive industrial production, so uh, yeah

LBJ's bullying through civil rights solely with his dick and Nixon creating useful governmental agencies like the EPA and OSHA in order for future administrations to undermine them later were literally the last time government did anything at all for the public good until Trump's covid response. Think about how dismal that is. We're sixty years out from the last time a democrat believed in anything and actually did it (while simultaneously committing a genocide) and the only other times we've gotten anything was because of cynicism and pure ignorance about the fact that government is not help its citizens no matter how dire the situation.

Maybe I'm off base here and I'd like pushback if I'm wrong but I'm inclined to think that the massive amount of lib hate for Nixon and Trump are both at least somewhat related to the fact that they actually did some good for the rabble or at least had the tendency within them to do so. Obviously both were hated prior to them doing that good, so it isn't all that, but I can't dismiss it as purely coincidence. After all they don't hate Reagan the same way and he was every bit as transformative while not doing anything good at all.

I don't think people realise quite how good an issue to campaign on banning pay to win and loot boxes is. People who don't know what it is doing care either way and people who do are rabid single issue nonvoters. There is probably about 5 million nonvoters you could turn out just by saying you will 'pay to win in video games' without explaining how or why.

this is some revisionist great man history bullshit lmaoooo

LBJ was a massive goddamn racist whose administration had to be pushed and prodded into prioritising civil rights beyond a Civil Rights Act that wasn't even well enforced at the time

he did not grant Black people their civil rights like a loving white saviour, and frankly, if it weren't for the civil rights movement refusing to compromise its ideals to placate white liberals, LBJ wouldn't have even pushed through the Voting Rights Act in the end

no, civil rights was not inevitable, and it was only because of the efforts of the civil rights movement and especially because of white liberals' fear of the Black Panthers that they even won those rights in the first place, after which the FBI thought it best to kneecap the movement into complacency by killing MLK and Fred Hampton before they could form a mass Black socialist movement

How many activists were senators?

Also we've clearly seen that no amount of activist activity will cause any reaction in the halls of power except more money for cops to beat the poo poo out of people. Why would anyone in government give two fucks about activists marching?

When several million angry people show up at the capital (with the implication they could be armed just as easily next time) it's listened to a bit more than votes.

Nix Panicus

I don't know how to put this politely except to say LBJ did grant black people their civil rights like a white savior, much like Lincoln ended slavery like a white savior, because thats literally how American government works. Absent government intervention dead Emmett Tills would have continued to stack up and the national guard would have been called out to mow down panthers and nonviolent protesters alike.

There is no moral arc of history or triumph of nonviolence. There are, at best, people in charge who, through either cold calculation or some spark of empathy that survived their rise to power, recognize when concessions are necessary to keep the gravy train going. But there is no requirement that they do so, and brutal repression is also a very popular choice. LBJ was sympathetic to civil rights and chose concessions over repression. He didn't have to. Its worth recognizing that fact, especially in light of the fact that the halls of power have perfected extinguishing whatever empathy a person has as a prerequisite for advancement. The civil rights movement would not succeed in 2022.

Puppy Burner posted:

I don't what would lead you to believe civil rights was the preferred concession and not calling out the national guard to fire indiscriminately into the crowd, with deputized white racists to make up the numbers.
