My only regret about my custom Yellow/Black controller, is that there isn't yellow charge-kits to go with it.
But using regular batteries is small price to pay.

The funniest piece of advice I ever got was not to get the Orange Box because they would probably release a complete edition in 6 months.

Niiiiice.

I keep thinking about doing a design lab controller, but I already have the 20th Anniversary controller and the Goon Squad controllers sitting in boxes and I have 3 other controllers I cycle through.

The arcade stick I bought works well with most of my fighting games and the Capcom arcade collection has native arcade stick support which is pretty awesome. They better include that in the fighting game collection god drat it.

Man I'm not going to get anything done this Friday, I'm going to be playing Darkstalkers all day

Tempted to pay the extra for a proper purple controller.

I bought the orange box about a month ago and my series x will not run any games just as a heads up. I can install and get to the main screen and then I get in a weird sign into Xbox live loop that never ends.

The TF2 on Orange Box 360 was DOA, sadly. No one played online and it lacked the support you'd expect of an online MP title.

TF2 was such a letdown compared to what was originally planned. But, it was insanely popular so i should definitely not be a game designer :haw:

Probably an issue with your Xbox 360 profile. Delete and redownload it (the profile) or maybe set up the one time password

This is the only advice I have so please don't correct me if I'm wrong

I have the orange box on disk and it looks great on series x. wish ms would do the magic and get it at 60fps but it’s still great.

bad management for years. they made HL Alyx and it’s legit like the best FPS game ever made, it’s decades ahead of the competition. if the failstation 5 gets it as part of FSVR2 then my allegiances to Xbox will be strained to their absolute limit

They own steam and aren't facing any credible threat to needing exclusives to their platform other than DotA

Like if Epic Games store was an actual threat to them, theyd start revving up the exclusives. They made Alyx because they don't own the 3d headset space

The charge kits don't really conflict with any colour, though. The battery stays inside and you can just get a yellow USB C cable, the battery charges the same.
Or is this a thing where you don't know how the first party batteries charge and mistakenly got some third party after market ones? The first party batteries don't replace the door, given they charge via the controller itself through USB C.

It actually pisses me off how much better Alyx is at VR than literally anything else. Like why has no one else managed to make a VR game that good? It's not even close! Bizarre.

There are some good ones like SuperHot VR or muder simulators like blade and sorcery but Alyx is just so much better than any other VR offering.

It's an incredibly novel field whose specialists largely emerged out of indie scenes or Facebook's money vault of a project, neither of which saw financial successes. Testing is expensive and difficult, before you even start to discuss normal quality testing. Imagine strapping a screen on with flickering graphics to a person's head and asking them to perform a standard work day's amount of review on it?

And then there's no market. No install base, and the closest thing to a hit that turns heads might be Beat Saber, but the entire industry isn't touching rhythm games and their licensing problems with a ten foot pole.

The platform needs a cash cow games as a service to attract people, honestly. It needs a product with a high player return rate, with recurrent spending. Otherwise people will only do what they've been doing: getting something small and simple with a big enough IP to market itself as a tie in to a movie or AAA game and then never talk of the product again after releasing it.

Valve used it to sell hardware. Sony uses it to sell hardware. Samsung used it to sell hardware. Facebook is using it to sell a service, but I don't believe that they believe it is key or essential to that service anymore, and the tepid respond to Meta beget a bunch of stories about an uncertain future for their whole VR segment.

Totally agree with all of this. It is a silly market to get into and Valve just had the combination of Steam cash flow and game development know how along with the desire to have a killer app for their hardware. It’s something not likely to be replicated any time soon.

I will say the Halo shooting game VR demo was really slick and it would be cool if that could get expanded.

Ask me about my XCOM and controller collection

word.

Father’s Day trip report: TMNT:SR runs perfectly one the One S. I played through it with the kids (3 players) and although the loading time is way longer than on the Series X performance felt fine.
My 9 year old was all in, but my 7 year old was dipping in and out (mostly just rejoined for boss fights after the 3rd level). The game was definitely a lot longer than I expected.
