It's ok that Starmer doesn't show any leadership on strikes pay, etc. He's leader of the opposition! By definition, he is a leader. And as leader of the opposition, he is the best leader not in government, so will be the next PM.

I love how Tories point at the country burning down around them, after more than a decade of them being in charge, and just say, 'this is what things would look like under Labour!' Like, surely even their most ardent supporters can't be blind to the fact that, actually, Labour aren't in charge, and haven't been for ages?

He's not blaming the last Labour government, he's blaming the next Labour government. It's totally different.

It’s more ‘Labour think strikes are good and want them to happen, we don’t’, which is why Starmer is so desperate to say ‘no no, we hate striking workers too!’ E: beaten, as above yeah

Ah yes you see but if labour were in government eveybody would be on strike all the time because people just do it for fun, it's only the firm hand of tory governance that stops people from striking all the time.

The Perfect Element posted:Like, surely even their most ardent supporters can't be blind to the fact that, actually, Labour aren't in charge, and haven't been for ages? I think this is more blaming a hypothetical Future Labour Government (maybe after 12 years the Last Labour Government shtick has finally run its course and this is the exciting, innovative new replacement?) - possibly one led by the devious Jermey Crobyn? As to your broader question- given the non-zero amount of voxpops from the Red WallTM in 2019 from people saying that Labour had been in power all their lives (i.e they had a Labour MP) and everything was still poo poo so they were going to vote Conservative, I wouldn't be too sure. E: beaten - that'll teach me to try and do work and phone post at the same time!

Angela Rayner the first actual shadow cabinet member to unambiguously support the striking workers. At this point it's hard not to agree with the Kieth is an op to destroy Labour crowd. That's the only way this looks like even a vaguely good line to take

I still think he's just twenty years out of date. Man got his start in politics under blair and has never progressed his opinions since then, or his tactics. Simply unable to operate in a world that is different from the one he wants to live in, much like the sad dads that form his support base.
