Welp looking like I fit in the 2007 they have on the lot. I'd prefer a soft top over the hard top they have. I'm still getting some knee rubs on the steering wheel when switching to the brake which is something that a steering wheel spacer would move the wheel to alleviate.

Im going to assume there's more or the same room than the hard top.

LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AS IT'S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!
Welp, I throw in the towel on getting this 94 registered here in Alabama. This state loving sucks about salvage titles. They even destroyed the FL salvage title I sent them during the inspection.

So, I've got two working Miatas if someone wants to buy project cars.

The 1994 (black/tan top) is a Copart auction buy with a FL salvage title (once I order a new one), I put a new front clip on it. The top is good.
The 2001 (black/tan top) has a completely stripped interior, since it was going to be a Lemons build but then COVID happened before I put a rollcage in it. It's actually road legal with a valid AL title. The top is shot.

Both cars run (with a jump, because the batteries are dead for sitting up for a while).

Anybody on the Gulf Coast feels like it, shoot me an offer by DM.

I've been meaning to post this for a while but keep forgetting and just had to move a bunch of stuff.

I have an extra set of ND aftermarket headers that I want to get rid of, they're unused and in the original box because the company accidentally sent me the part twice. It's this exact item: https://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/61-1824S.html

I installed the first one on my ND2 and it's great, albeit definitely louder than stock. I use one of the baffles they sell with my exhaust to make it a little quieter but it sounds great.

Anyway I really don't want this box anymore but I'm also lazy and hate trying to sell stuff to private parties. But I appreciate my fellow goons, especially Miata owners, so if someone want to throw me a little money to cover shipping and my precious time or whatever then I'm down. I don't know if this is against the rules and I have to post in SA-Mart or something. At this point I don't even really care about making money from it, I just want to get rid of it.

I'm kind of interested-- for my 21 RF, but I've never put headers on a car before. Are you completely catless?

I'm old enough to not want to deal with the smell, or the chore of trying to pass emissions but it sounds like a good opportunity for someone.

The RF looks really sick. I mean in general but especially this one here.

The replacement license plate light housign that I got maybe 4 years ago broke again when I had to change a bulb. Instead of getting another identical set, I found these LEDs: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003210592406.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.1a7b3c00Z5ud5S&mp=1

It seems like it might be using a different, hopefully softer plastic for the latch, plus it has its own connector which turned out to be the actual problem in my case, and not the bulb.

E: they also have shifter boots and window bushings lol. A bit cheaper than miata specialist shops.

Nearly set fire to my car whilst welding last weekend. The amusing bit is I'd just welded some poo poo INSIDE the car (rear seat mount bracket thing where it meets the floor/inner sill because rot was cut out and new metal welded in) and all was fine. It was when I was welding FROM THE OUTSIDE that somehow a spark got in and made sweet love to the underside of the carpet despite there being a welding blanket in there laying over the top of the curled up carpet. I was sat outside taking a break and was wondering why I could still smell smoke, turns out the underlay for the carpet although fire resistant still kinda burns. :v: so that could've been a lot worse than it was, it has just singed a couple of inches square. Anyway, more welding to go. Lots more. Lots of priming. Lots of seam sealing. Lots of painting. Lots of anti-corrosion treatment...

As I move slowly forward with this I find myself getting distracted and looking at bits for the car. I'm already planning on picking up another front and rear subframe so I can get them all bushed up and swap them for the semi-crusty ones on the car. Also a variety of adjustable arms to go on them. I'm still looking into a cheapo DIY bikini top too but I need to measure up a roll bar to see where I'd be sat in relation to the top and the bar. I may need to chat up some local owners. The weather here at the moment is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for top down driving so I'm mildly bummed I've been semi-slack on the repairs but I've wanted to do it properly and not just bodge it so I can drive it. I DO NOT want to have to hack this car's insides up again in future. One thing for sure though is with all the fresh metal in it and buttload of welding it's probably going to be a little bit stiffer than it was. Also thinking about putting some reinforced frame rails under it and a couple of braces. Feature creep is a bitch, right? :v:

Pillbug
I'vd had my ND for a month now, and I'm thrilled with it.

(I know it needs a clean, give me a minute.)

Pros.
- It's such a pleasure to drive, it really is. I know that's a Duh thing for most of you, but my only other experience with an MX-5 was twenty or so years ago, and an NA. This is just... so much fun. I find myself looking for excuses to drive, or extending drives I'm already on. I love it.
- it's so nice to have the roof down all the time. I only really raise the roof for motorway/freeway work - apart from that, it's roof down, all the time.
- I got 45mpg on a mixed two hour drive last week, and that's twice what I used to get in my C63.
- I find it very comfortable, and snug, especially in colder weather. Heated seats on, heating on - it's great.

Cons.
- I've not quite worked out the keyless entry yet, and it often takes me a couple of goes to unlock the car for myself and the passenger. I'll read the manual sometime.
- the rearview mirror sits in my line of sight. My fault for being 6'1", but there you go.
- the infotainment is a bit sluggish, and slow to react. I don't bother with the navigation, but the digital radio is clear and loud, and I love the Bose speakers in the seat headrests.

10/10 would buy again.

I found my ND2 didn't handle as good as I expected it to, it desperately needed some sway bars to tame the body roll. Other than that, I don't think I really had any gripes with it other than wind noise and typical for mazda right now interior chrome in bad places that glares in your face

Congrats! I also love my ND so far. Although, I do wish I could've gotten the Recaro seats.

The rear view mirror blocking a good portion of your line of sight is also an issue for me. I have thought about buying those seat-lowering rails. However, once you install them you can't move the seat position without having a socket wrench on hand and I'm not prepared to basically have a fixed-position seat.

The sluggish infotainment unit is also annoying, and seems to be a problem for all OEMs for some reason.

Weird question, my NC had a bad habit of clogging drain tubes. I'd have to swab them out monthly with a tuba cleaner if I didn't want the space beneath my driver's seat to turn into a swamp. I'd assume the NC PRHT and ND RF don't have the same drain tubes, correct? I sold my miata after I quit my last job and I miss it, but hard top's probably the only way I'd want one again.

Honestly towards the end of my ownership I just dremeled out an access hole so I could get to the drat tube, it may not have looked "clean" but neither did soggy carpet. Before that i would have to attack it from under the car and that worked but was messy.

Is the mirror arm double articulated? This is an option, pricey though:

A mirror from a vintage British car or aircooled VW might work.

That's interesting. In my case I have the window sensor/homelink/forward facing camera that I assume is for the collision avoidance thing-- so not an option. I just wish they had either made the packaging more compact, or made the seat lower.

They have options for NDs with and without the sensor, is all that stuff mounted in the mirror? Not sure if the photos on the page correspond with your car.

Not too bad, couple rips on the plastic but I was able to pop everything back, tow hook cover is toast and thankfully my nice brake duct is okay. Splitter was already a lil mashed on that side.

They did have an option that accounted for the windshield sensor package, but not homelink. I don't want to fumble around trying to grab a garage door opener from the center glovebox. That thing is already difficult for me to access once I'm in the driver's seat.

My NC2 has some drain holes behind the seats, covered with a little plastic grate. Was fine for 9 years before I got water inside. I broke the little grates free to clean out the drains and they seem to stay in place when I put them back. It's been 2 years since then, haven't had to clean them again.

Well the installing and getting everything on the computer was the hardest part, lots of different drivers and stuff im not the greatest at software. Kinda also reluctant to change something non mechanical. Flashed a tune that's a higher rev in 2nd for autocross and advancing timing or whatever wizardry on 93 oct for a lil more power. Don't want to break the transmission so not interested in more power mods. I'll maybe post a review after I can wring it out.

Nice :toot:

I have a couple of annoying issues. One is alternator ? belt squeal. I'm pretty sure at least it's the cause. It seemed like it was fixed when I had the engine-out frame rail repair when they replaced the belt but it's back to squealing on startup. Could it be something else? It really doesn't sound like a bearing to me but at this point

Another one is a weird rattle from the gearbox/clutch. I think I had it happen a few times before, and I thought that whatever it was, would be gone after a clutch job. But apparently not, but again it's very rare. A few times it sounded like something was just rattling in that area in neutral, and pressing and releasing the clutch stopped it. I've really no idea what could be causing this, maybe the throwout bearing rattling on the fork? Any ideas guys?

Question for you folks. Have a 91 with bad AC. Compressor was definitely toast, so swapped it and all the other relevant parts, but the clutch is not engaging on the new one (and I never actually confirmed the clutch was engaging on the old one). Started hunting for the fuse, and it appears to have a breaker for the AC in the box, pushed the reset button in the middle of that, no go.
Pulled the relay, and checked the wires going into it, not seeing power there when I switch the AC on, but I'm not sure which leg should be energized on it. Anyone know for sure?

Guessing next step is to trace back to the AC switch, make sure I'm getting power there.
And of course doing all this in triple digits, so frustration levels are climbing.
