You mess with the crabbo...

Booted up the new PS5 update for Resident Evil 2, and they somehow screwed up cutscene skipping - it just stops at wherever you hit pause, but still continues on trying to play through the dialogue. Interesting effect if you're in one with anything going on in-engine :v:

Them not putting the official/unofficial patch in at release and saying they were gonna include it later was really loving dumb. it stopped me from buying it first day because I remember how bad it was on pc before the unofficial patch

I'm glad they're porting over not just the classic game but the experience of playing the game.

Girl Doll Dressed -

In 2010 Sims 3 players noticed inexplicable slow downs, crashes, and corrupted files. Comparing their recent activities and downloads found nothing in common, and neither did comparing the content of their mods.

However, with further work they discovered an invisible porcelain doll of a little girl which secretly attached itself to downloads, lurked inside your house, then would, on its own, attach to any upload you made to haunt other unsuspecting players. She couldn't be seen by any normal means. She couldn't be deleted.

She was also an innocent mistake. A modder trying to add more toy options uploaded a broken earlier build instead of the intended complete version and the exchange site was imprecise when copying mod files and together they managed to release a haunted Victorian doll curse by accident.

Probably already known, but...

Today I learned that everyone in the original Half Life is that guy from Police Academy/Spaceballs who does sound effects. The game only allowed certain types of thing to make noises, and inanimate objects were not among them.

Every time a security guard presses a button and it goes 'beep', the guard is saying 'beep'. Ordinarily, just a funny quirk. It doesn't matter what process creates the sound so long as it sounds right to the player.

However, Half Life also had a simple lip-flap script to make NPCs animate when they're talking, and though they do their best to hide it by having them lean into the panels, this script is still running for sound effects.

This even applies to Gordon's model if you force 3rd person. When he fires a shotgun, he's yelling "blam". When he recharges his suit, he's saying "Nyeeeeowwww bleephmmmm bleephmmm". When the suit says "Welcome to the HEV Mk4 Protective System" Gordon's mouth is moving.

I remember that from when I first played the game 25 years (Christ!) ago; right after you get off the intro tram, (a) Barney escorts you to the huge blast door chit-chatting and when he gets to a control panel for the door he leans in and literally punches the keypad and his mouth moves with every "bloop" the thing makes.

Oh yeah, I remember one like that. It inspired me and my brother to do it for some of our own games, back when a lot of them just had a pile of .wav files sitting in a directory somewhere. It made for some good laughs.

I like that the silent takedown move is something that will make people yell in pain instead of something that would choke people out.

an armbar isn't going to break your neck, it will hurt and cause you to tap, by hyperextending your arm, and possible breaking it. You'd be screaming the whole time, loudly. It wouldn't cause you to become quiet.

Look, if the noise you make is quieter than a gunshot, nobody can hear it except the protagonist. This is how sound works.

I totally read this wrong and thought you meant Michael Winslow ACTUALLY did all the noises and rushed to google to look it up. I just read it wrong but I did find the video
