EMERGENCY POWER TO PARTY

She's a member of space-Sinn Fein fighting for independence for people living in the belt. She spends half of S3 hanging out with a crusty semi-retired space pirate, and arguing the benefits of organised nation building vs throwing assholes out the airlock. She plays space-squash, shoots mutineers without blinking, and at one point does crunches hanging upside down from the ceiling.

She did a whole bunch of stuff with a broken spine too!

Drummer always reminded me of Spock in some ways. She's highly intelligent, highly logical, certainly considers self-control to be a tenet of personal faith, yet has strong emotions and deep loyalties running just under the surface. And still manages to believe in the possibility of a better world. Drummer would have been an incredible Starfleet captain. (Too pragmatic to go Ma'quis, and doesn't want to settle planets in the first place.) Hell, she'd be a pretty serviceable Vulcan.

Ok, I gotta admit at this point I'm like, are you this guy's nephew or something? Dude has six seasons of increasingly lovely live Star Trek in his producing belt. I know you watched the last season of Picard.

People here really like SNW. We're also wary of the Kurse of Kurtzman, and we have every right to be. If SNW shits the bed this season or next, why wouldn't we aim our sights at Kurtzman? Especially with his track record? Fortunately, so far, he's either far away from it or he has learned his lesson, and neither one of those options invalidates the entirely reasonable concern that he could ruin things if given the opportunity.

Camina Drummer is such a BAMF.

Cara Gee, the actress her plays her, is so sweet everytime i've seen her interact with anyone outside of the show. She's a total 180 from the character. Easily one of the best actors on the show.

Strange New Worlds is quite good, which after Disco and Picard has me braced for a rug pull.
Earlier, I was thinking "isn't it weird how modern Star Trek is 50/50 for good and bad? Good is Lower Decks and SNW, and bad is Discovery and... er, wait, Prodigy's supposed to be good, so not that. How did I get 50/50?"

Until I saw your post, I had honestly blanked Picard from my mind. Daaaamn. (I gave up after 2x06 or 07, on the grounds that "this poo poo ain't gonna get any better, and I don't care how it ends.")

Also worth mentioning that this character was so positively received by the audience of The Expanse that Telltale is making a series of games based on her, starring the actress.

But yes, for that one dude who hasnt seen The Expanse - at one point she breaks her back, drags herself out of her hospital bed to assemble a pair of mech-legs and then leads a counter-mutiny.

Like I said earlier - I hope if SNW decides to deliver a true clunker, it’s at least horrifically bizarre and entertaining.

I know everyone is riding the "omg Trek is back" wagon, but i feel so happy that when I think it whiffs on an episode (like Those Who Warp Away From Omelas) it was bad in the way a poorly developed TNG plot was, not bad in way Disco is bad.

I both own and operate a pirate ship.
My kid loves Lower Decks. If I put on an episode he hears the opening theme and comes running to watch. I decided to try Prodigy with him. I didn't care for it myself, but only because I'm old and it seems like a show for young children. My kid is 11, said he didn't like it, but wanted to keep watching it anyway. We watched the first two or three episodes. I tried to be encouraging and didn't let on that I didn't really want to watch it myself but he seems to have just lost interest on his own.

And since we're talking The Expanse, I really liked that show. My wife loved it. Probably her favourite show. It has stretches where it seems like every episode ends on a cliffhanger, but it's not a bunch of mystery box nonsense. There is an actual story and plot with character arcs and worldbuilding etc. Good stuff.

Also, I noticed there was some swearing in Lower Decks. It's bleeped of course. I noticed my kid giving a chuckle when he caught it, but I don't really mind. It seems to fit the show in the instances it was used.
