Eh, their follow up tweet (not threaded for some reason) is right to be fair – rogue is the wrong word, but it's an outlier at this point. Has tended to be ahead of the others (quite dramatically in case of Johnson).

But agree that generally feels like he's hosed this one and it could go south quickly. Then again, I don't have faith the public won't turn on the strikes and he'll stay ahead, ethics of it all barely loving matters at this point in UK party politics.

Yeah being fair when I posted that tweet in here it was all they had sent me and it looked like they just screamed FAKE at me and hosed off

ASLEF reallty need to pull their finger out and join their 'sister' union with co-ordinated action, it is a lot harder for TOCs to find scab drivers than other grades. I say 'sister' because when I was in the RMT striking against DOO ASLEF weren't interested despite their members largely being against it.

If ASLEF and TSSA return yes ballots (balloting in progress but the RMT always seem to do the heavy lifting) and coordinate with the RMT the strikes will be really fun then as that includes the grades of people coordinating strike contingency plans.

I've been watching him do this for a few days now, and he's annihilated every single person by simply refusing to play their bullshit game, stating facts and pointing out the absurdities in their questioning.

This is such a ridiculously simple method. Why haven't people been doing this all along?

Because you need to be pretty smart, have a solid grasp of the relevant facts, and also be able to put it across cleanly without getting flustered by dickheads. It looks simple, but it's a real skill.

You also need to not have brainworms, which is even harder.

It also takes a certain degree of... I don't know what to call it, arrogance is what you call it most of the time, but basically there is an impulse when having a conversation with someone, to give and take in the conversation, to assume they are acting in good faith and to follow where they lead to a degree. People who simply do not demonstrate that at all in conversation are usually horrible to talk to and come off as extremely arrogant, but I think that impulse is something that media types tend to exploit. So you have to be able to shut it off without seeming like a ranting nutter. And that's an even harder skill to develop if you're not a frothing arsehole because it runs entirely contrary to how you have to interact with people the rest of the time. So it's generally the preserve of right wing psychos or politico/marketing freaks who sound like robots.

He’s good at debating: this is hard because you need to have a lockdown on (a) all the relevant and potentially relevant facts; (b) the context and framing of those facts; and (c) your own temper when someone lies or makes a seriously disingenuous point.

Doing it right makes it look commonsensical and easy but it isn’t.

Because generally the Media only invites on people who want a media career, and they have to play along. Jeremy Corbyn had the same method for a while and eventually they bogged him down in pointless shite.

They’ll call up ex-bosses or other people Mick Lynch has upset by being a tough negotiator and put together a takedown smear accusing him of being an unrepentant bully. Then all the journos will pile on accusing him of being disrespectful and of bullying them when he does a “that’s ridiculous” comeback in an interview.

i don't know much about the guy but he does make this easy to do with his smirk and finger pointing motions. the smirk is good if you understand him, and how stupid the comments he is responding to are, but people who aren't that keyed in will be easily turned against him on the level of personality. most people have only a tiny bit of information or less. they'll remember one or two talking points against his stance as justification for why they don't like the guy who seems to think he's smarter or more moral than the person he's talking to, who is actually yourself.

i think that's how it works anyway. pretty hard to defend against if you're trying to educate the public via an innately hostile channel.
