the most "what the gently caress" reaction to people collecting things i ever had was when i was trying to find what bags would fit a really old vacuum cleaner i had. turns out people collect vacuum cleaners and i ended up on a website for those people. of note was the dude who had like 20+ variations of the 50 years old vacuum cleaner i had, and the section of the website designed for kids, because you obviously want to make sure your kids get into vacuum cleaner collecting when they're still young

i don't know if there's a magazine for that though

but did you get the bag

this is important

i did not. couldn't find anything that fit. i ended up having to get rid of it, as much as i hate throwing things out. might have been for the best though, the motor was clearly on its last leg, and with the amount of dust and other crap that accumulated in it over the decade i'm not sure how it never caught fire

I feel the same about the Terry Love forums. General purpose plumbing forum (that's refreshingly helpful and not overrun by judgemental tradesmen) but they have some of the best toilet related content on the internet. Top 10 lists of all the toilets out there with different installation scenarios and a thriving subforum dedicated just to toilets.

https://terrylove.com/crtoilet.htm

Also has that Web 1.5 feel and doesn't do the stupid thing where it hides images behind registration

homebrewtalk.com is kinda like the meat smoking one. it's been around since the old days of the internet, it's got a million boomers on it and a lot of the information isn't really best practice anymore. but everything else is on Reddit, and that subreddit is actually fine and is helpful, but it doesn't retain any institutional knowledge. meanwhile homebrewtalk is just there with a bunch of old recipes, old advice, old brew setup plans, threads that have 1500 pages and the OP actually gets updated.

obviously because my dumb old gay rear end is posting here I miss forums but we really lost a lot. poo poo moving to discord is waaaaay worse, all of that is dust in the wind.

my good friend, may i interest you in modern slack, where people get mad if you respond to something in a channel without using a thread

never have i encountered a greater population of people who want a forum so bad that they will chastise you for not opting into the world's worst implementation of one

excellent

quote:

So I spent 12 days in Cardiac Intensive Care, and 28 days in the hospital, before I left with new problems with my Kidneys & my Heart, and old problems with my lungs. Since that I got checked out by the VA, and they said “Agent Orange” was behind much of the start of the problems.
So now I don’t get around so good, and have quit just about everything you can’t do while being dizzy half of the time. This includes Driving, Fishing, Hunting, smoking meat, because of all the in & out of the doors, up & down the steps, and on my feet entirely too much, while needing oxygen 24/7.
