I'm still expecting wildly inconsistent coffee from it though but it should be a fun experiment.

The cheap ones have always been pretty poor, starting the brew before the water is up to temp and then overshooting the mark with boiling water for the remainder. And hot plates were always the inferior option compared to an insulated carafe anyway.
