Out of date rules for the legions’ special units if I remember right. I wouldn’t buy it unless you collect that sort of thing; there’s not much fluff in it.

I wouldn't say that it's life-changing, because I've been following her blog for years, but it's fantastic having so much in a book on the shelf rather than having to pull up a computer or something.

My Liber Astartes book hasn't arrived yet but I'm amusing myself at work by thinking about my army: I know that squads will all be identically equipped, but what about the Sargent? For example in a tactical squad of bolt rifles can I have a Sargeant with a power sword and plasma pistol?

Yeah, you can equip the sergeant with weapon options.

I've seen some people mention online about building one of the Praetors as a Librarian for Thousand Sons, but I can't find an entry for Librarians in the book. Am I overlooking something or is it just a convenient term for one of the other models now?

A Librarian is a type of Centurion/Consul.

Keep in mind for TS you may not want to take a librarian upgrade for 45 pts because you can take any other upgrade and add a psychic discipline on top for 15pts. Unless you really want a psychic hood and/or force weapons

If you want force weapons, you don't even need to to do that, the bespoke TS force weapons can replace power weapons for free.

Ultras can use the box just fine. Their rules are solid but unexciting. If I were building UMs from the box I'd do 4 separate 10 man squads so they could benefit from a rule that promotes synergy when they shoot.

In Heresy, squads all have the same guns like primaris do. If you build a sergeant or two and give everyone else bolters you'll be fine.

Headhunters, upgrade kit notwithstanding, are basically Extra Tacticool space marines with fancy bolters. Paint ten in a darker/different scheme than the rest and you can get a unique Legion unit out of the box in addition to everything else.

Put vexillas on them (NOT the sarge like the poster above has wisely discovered), theyre a good buy. You can always add the bayonets later if you want

Not all of them, but the biggest gun mixers are Vereran Tacticals. Recons and Seekers have specialist kit that's not for sale yet, and Breachers, well, need shields.

But Tacticals, Tac Supper and Heavy support are monoweapon.

I have a box of the special weapons and am aiming to paint my beakies up as Sons of Horus - for anyone who has looked at the rules, are there any weapons that fit really well with the SoH' rules or does the choice depend more on army composition? I'm wavering between the volkite guns (long or short?) and the meltaguns, purely based on looks.

Your tacticals are already there to mow down infantry, so meltas will crack vehicles and termies. Sure, you need to get close, but that's why you have the whole GANGS WOLFPACK AGGRESSION fluff

I think my 1k sons might be paying for their 1st edition sins in 2.0. The minor arcana in particular seem maybe a little under tuned wrt risk v reward? If you pass a leadership test you get e.g +3 move, but if you fail you get nothing but perils. I mean personally I deserve this since I played 1k Sons with Sehkmet in 1.0, but uh all the new 1k Sons players deserve better!

Tortuga Bay does very good Mk2 bodies, but a) it's just the bodies as far as I know, so you'll need your own arms and heads, b) IIRC they're affected by the ongoing Ukraine situation so I'm not sure what fulfillment looks like recently.

Given that the Spartan model has a Mk2 crew member, it's not out of the realm of possibility for it to come back in plastic.

I'm expecting a followup release wave at some point -- let's say three months from now -- with plastic assault marines and more weapon boxes. If the plastic assault marines aren't either mark ii or mark v I'll find some sort of small novelty chocolate hat to eat, so I can say I've eaten my hat.

(Or maybe it'll be despoilers and they'll sell the jump packs as an upgrade box, I don't know.)

There's a good 3D print version out for free.

Also, wargame exclusive now carries Tortuga stuff as well, so maybe they worked something out?

I've gotten two orders from them recently (MkIV armor and both types of terminators), and both times, it took about 2 weeks to prepare and ship, and then another 2-3 weeks to arrive. It's a bit of a wait, but they're still going, and the quality is excellent.

I wish their power armor bodies had separate pieces for the torsos and legs though.
