Surely as the Labour Party loses money from the unions it’ll just tack harder to the right in an attempt to court the private donors currently funding the Tories?

Brexit still providing great quote:On 23 June 2016, Geoffrey Betts, the managing director of a small office supplies business in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, had high hopes for his firm, and the British economy, when he voted for Brexit. How do these business owners think that not having frictionless trade with the massive econemy next door would be a good idea At least the Netherlands appears to be doing well with the British businesses setting up there to avoid the effects of the thing they voted for.

As she says, recruitment is rising at older universities. So surely this is humanities students shifting from one university to another, not that they are going to be denied the opportunity to study them? This is still bad - free market competition in the universities sector lowers standards because uni's care more about numbers through the door and keeping them from failing rather quality or standards of education, which also means they care less about research (especially humanities research which doesn't bring in grant money) because it's not directly profit-making. But this sounds more about recruitment squeeze by expandition of universities with more cultural capital than end results.

Universities are also slowly being cordycepted by the parasite of management courses. Because when a particularly bright humanities student graduates, if they get a position at the uni, it's teaching. When a particularly bright management / business student* graduates, senior management snap them up. So when it comes time to allocate resources or decide which courses get cut, you have a room full of soulless briefcase wankers who think a subtext is something you send your boss at 3am to get a promotion. *E: no, I see it now. I mean one who scored highly on the right tests, if they were actually bright they would be doing a real job. Bobby Deluxe fucked around with this message at 13:50 on Jun 26, 2022 |
