With etherium being just under 1200, things look good for gamers as far as GPU mining is concerned right? Is there a certain price range where it becomes flat out unprofitable (or at the very least way too long for any decent ROI timeframe)? It would be very cool if the monster stayed dead but who knows. And I guess similarly, it ETH ever goes proof of stake, that just means another GPU mining coin takes its place right?

Scratch Monkey posted:A org called “Yuga Labs” claims they’re not nazis. “Yuga” is a term from Hindu cosmology that was picked up by modern neo-nazis via the nutty (even by nazi standards) fringe concept of “esoteric Hitlerism”. These ideas were created by a Franco-Grecian nazi who became convinced that Hitler had been an avatar of the god Vishnu and had ushered in the “Kali Yuga”, a phase of the never ending universal cycle of creation and destruction. The Kali Yuga is viewed as a sort of nazi equivalent of the Christian doctrine of tribulation. Once the current degenerate era (Yuga) ends the old world will be destroyed and the new, racially pure world be born from it’s ashes As an aside, (a non-important rant about white people adopting foreign ideas to promote books and theories) It has always pissed me off that all the 20th-century-to-present shoehorning of cultural information has been conducted in a way that only seeks to cram it into the Judeo-Christian belief system. Even the alleged "spiritual" New Age mythos are so deeply-rooted into Christian belief as to appear as branches of Christian thought. Across the entire paranormal and occult sphere, everything from UFOs to governmental conspiracies always return to the idea that the Bible, specifically Revelation, is unarguably true. The entire framework of the occult to this point in English literary history is built on the Bible as fact. The ideas, beliefs and accomplishments of non-Christian cultures are molded and cherry-picked so that they only support the Judeo-Christian system, often presented as a lucky coincidence of noble savagery gone right. For example, the entire Ancient Alien and/or Ante-diluvian narratives all stem from ideas that everything from large stone structures down to knowledge of farming was impossible for ancient peoples to figure out themselves. They needed a Christ-like savior or alien race to teach them how to cook or smelt metal. I've seen this idea taken to its logical white Christian conclusion of "welp, brown people were too dumb to build the pyramids because they are brown, so it must be white people who did it," such as promoted by asswipes like Robert Sepehr and others who reject any and all ideas that non-whites were capable of anything remotely intelligent (and also that the Out of Africa theory is all a lie because that would mean white people would be related to black people). In the past few decades, when the idea of time cycles started rising in popularity thanks to the Mayan calendar paranoia, the yuga cycle was just one of several time cycles that were appropriated into the Christ-centric cosmology. To them, yuga cycles were willy-nilly (often short) time periods, and they could be switched on and off to fit into their narrative. Just like the Mayan calendar, everyone had some idea about what x-time cycle meant, and how it fit into the Judeo-Christian narrative. They're all wrong, and they don't care. The Mahabharata's war was part of the inevitable end of the previous yuga (age), leading into the current kali yuga. The Mahabharata literally ends with the ushering-in of kali yuga, and whatever historicity for any part of the writing of that book, kali yuga started thousands of years ago. Each yuga goes for hundreds of thousands of years, with a full yuga cycle going for more than a million years. The four yugas (that make up one yuga cycle) are all "graded" in terms of how humans relate to their spiritual and material situations, with kali yuga being the alleged worst for everyone in a number of ways. Human works, type of worship, society, and more, all have different templates for each yuga. According to Hindu cosmology, there have been a near-infinite number of yuga cycles, and it's not really a big deal, especially now that were several thousand years into the current kali yuga, with over 400k years left until it ends. It's interesting to me how the current popular theories and famous names in the paranormal/occult/conspiracy world all barely, and I mean barely touch on Eastern ideas or knowledge. It's all too foreign for them. They're glad to stick to Egyptian, Mesopotamian, or other Middle Eastern information (appropriating Islamic elements into the Christian view is becoming normal), but even a cursory Wikipedia reading about different Buddhist, Hindu, Zoroastrian, Persian, animistic, etc., thought from the East defeats their ability to reconcile their own worldviews into their narratives. Everything would fall apart for their cash cow theories if they did, which is also a reflection of the audience and the indoctrination it takes to be an audience member. Mercury_Storm posted:Before China banned cryptocurrencies it was being used to get around currency controls, mainly the $50,000 limit on taking money out of the country I believe. Before that the hot thing was to launder it through casinos in Macau where they were still legal.

This is heavily dependent on how much you pay for electricity, but yeah right now the profitability is poo poo. Below is a quick and dirty calc if you had 6 3080s with a cost of electricity of 0.1 kwh, which is about the average in the US: On top of above you also have to factor in any cooling costs (esp. bad in summer) and taxes. People are def starting to shut down thier GPU rigs, as evident by the drop in network hash rate:
