Feel the same. Totally understand that the Democratic party doesn't actually want change or to reform the status quo. But failing to pass voting reform is making it way way too obvious. In the near future they could very well end up a rump party permanently unable to gain power ever again, and have to imagine that will interfere with the political fundraising grift.

Arguably they already are irrelevant if they're seriously maintaining they need 60 Senators to ever pass any legislation the Republicans don't like.

Abolish the filibuster, make puerto rico a state, make dc a state, pass comprehensive voting reform, etc. all helps them keep seats and power. Even if it's a grift they're loving it up. Do the basic poo poo then vote scold. They've got to be destroyed so someone, anyone can organize something. Probably too late now tho. Enough people voted in the most important election ever™ got them a trifecta and they still don't have poo poo. Reforming the system to help themselves win seems like basic survival and nope. grandpa joe is...at the G7 getting the next urkraine arms package ready or whatever

Good points. Guess it's not so surprising the Democrats didn't get voting reform through, despite it being maybe the only way they could avoid being destroyed.

Feel like fundraising must become less lucrative when there's no real prospect of ever governing though. People donate to the green party, but it's relatively small change.

I think paradoxically the rise of small dollar donations may make this less true. Big corporate donors may cut back, but the army of bourgie white people in the Yass Kween Army probably make up for that and more, and they don't care about governing results

I maintain that the deathbed begging to not let Trump pick her replacement is the most shameful poo poo. RBG has a really wonderful story but how can you be that smart, dedicated, determined, and still think that anything you say at that point would matter. Just so goddamn ignorant.

I gotta say though, the current set of Democrat leadership is genuinely going down as the most catastrophically bad political leadership America has seen since before the Civil War. And they don't seem to give a poo poo. At least Obama cared about his legacy, Pelosi and Schumer are going to be remembered, if the coming post-apocalyptic society retains any historical memory, alongside Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan, as the undertakers of American democracy

the fundraising will last for the next decade or so even after the party is functionally destroyed, and that's all the ancient ghouls need. if they cared about future generations including their own wretched failspawn they wouldn't have, you know *gestures at entire modern world*.

Quite the contrary. Fundraising can be really lucrative when the goal is stopping those few seats from ending in the hands of someone even slightly to the left of the party. If you go to open secrets the congressional races with the most outside spending are all in safe blue seats.

It's because this is the end of liberalism in its current form.

What you're seeing is a manifestation of the death drive across a large population, a sizable subset of the American aristocracy. They've exhausted their ability to govern and to manage the homeostasis of the American empire.

Some respond to this by radicalizing, either to fascism or socialism. But the ones who don't, the real hardline centrists, they want a Death. Not a personal death -- they don't actually want to die -- but a big Death, a capital 'D' Death across America. The death of an ideal, the unmaking of the political organs that have managed the American state since at least WW1 if not back to the early 19th century.

You see this among their voters too. It's part of what makes the pitch of the Democratic party so enticing: they aren't actually ever promising to do anything, but they promise to go down fighting. If you've accepted that you have no more answers and your class needs to be unmade to further the social relations of capitalism then there's a pretty potent appeal to the fantasy of the last phalanx standing against the hordes of rural conservatives.

calling it ultra MAGA also makes it seem like it’s a new phenomenon and that before 2016 republicans were reasonable and wanted to help the nation. I assume democrats actually believe that though, hence the catchphrase.

you think I'm old and out of touch? Listen here, fat. What my administration has done has been to it has done what we set out to do and do it. Not a lot of people appreciate what we've done, but we've done it, and just like I used to tell Corn Pop, it ain't a done deal 'till the deal is done, if you know what I mean. Well back in my day, when we were visiting the pool, we'd tie an onion to our belt, and that just meant you were with it, you know? And I was with it, and I still am with it, with kids these days not knowing the difference between a dime jash cobble and a cobble blane dime, ya hear? So when that other guy was in charge, you know the one, had the... well, you know, and anyways he never tied an onion to his belt, not really with it, fat, because here we have democracy and freedom, and that's what America is about.
