Stalker is easily one of the best movies ever made, for so many reasons. The book it comes from is INCREDIBLE. The story behind how the movie got made (TWICE) is amazing. The fact that everyone died from cancer from making the movie in abandon chemical factories, is tragic. Yeah it's superb, someone pointed out to me that it's like the bits in Last of the Summer Wine where the old guys are wandering in the hills having conversations and I can't unsee it now. (For non-Brits Last of the Summer Wine was a sit com that involved old men wandering around areas of outstanding natural beauty and occasionally riding down steep hills in a bathtub)

I have a big hard one for capital C cinema, and watched stalker (again) one evening with a mate Great movie, but my partner doesn't quite have the penchant for these types of films pops in every so often and riffs on it, ""it's slow!, They just walk and talk, nothing happens " etc it's fine, I've seen the movie before,and it's all in good fun, and my mate and are having a gay old time with it because old films are great sometimes. The next evening my partner is in the mood for something dumb and they put on mike Meyers "cat in the hat" film. I'm still reeling from stalker and my brain just wants to slowly observe the film and the internal motivations of the characters of cat in the hat. It was a very bizarre experience Also, Stalker totally feels slow, but it actually moves pretty quick By 15 minutes you have met all the characters and they are headed through a militarized zone and getting shot at. Tarkovsky is just good at sucking you into a rythym

Interesting, I dug the book real good, love the movie But I just don't understand the game, I'm sure if I had someone who is good at it walk me through I could play and enjoy it, but not user friendly enough for me, I enjoyed that rouglike mod of it tho, that was cool

I tried to watch Stalker and I was pretty bored but only because I've put hundreds maybe thousands of hours into the video game produced out of Ukraine, based on the book/movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's interesting how different the book, novel and movie is And how that impacts what you are after I entered the "stalkerverse" from watching a bunch of tarkovsky films and what I enjoy from it may be totally different from someone whole likes tactical/methodical FPS games who learnt this series has an old art film attached to it

I believe the last scene is trying to make explicit what the rest of the movie is thematically about. I haven't seen that movie in like 12 years so I could be wrong. Also I agree that the game has basically nothing in common with the movie, but also the movie doesn't have a ton in common with the book. All three are pretty good though!

I think the daughter is kind of a weird non-addition to the story. I took the story to be a look at people being presented with the possibility of getting what they want most but being scared of what it would actually be or that getting it would show or confirm that they were a worse person than they thought they were, see Porcupine and his brother. The ending is the Stalker being afraid of what's in their own heart, the doctor who was afraid of what was in the hearts of others and when it was revealed that the room did not grant the wish you wanted in the way you wanted it, he realized that the room could not be used in any grand plan for evil. I'll have to re-watch it to get the writers pov since its been a few years.
