I don't seem to recall rotary engines being particularly fuel efficient although I guess small gas engines might edge out electric due to better energy density of gas for drones

Rotaries are absolutely terrible for fuel consumption and emissions but they excel in situations where you need max torque at steady RPMs which is basically exactly the use case for aircraft, generators, and range extenders.

When you are designing the inlet and exhaust ports for a steady RPM application, you do that design so that the problems of the port timing overlap are negated and the fuel efficency rises considerably - having the scavaging intake arrive at the edge of the rotor just as it closes means it's not spitting raw fuel out the exhaust and the effiency is higher. Also this allows for a more complete burn so emissions of various oxides and carbon monooxide drops considerably as well. A rotary for it's power output will be considerably smaller and lighter than an ICE equivalent as well as being less complex. A steady high rpm means the engine is not subject to carbon buildup which will also lead to a better burning fuel mixture.

Also rotarys run well on a variety of alternate fuels or lovely fuels

I wonder much does that bronze car weighs compared to the aluminum Kirkhams.

Sounds like the bronze car requires a lot of polishing to keep it looking nice.

The most absolutely super basic spec car sold by a manuf (in the US) right now is the HPD Civic Si and it is still $55k, after that is the Global MX5 Cup at around $80k for the basic car plus the required sadev. Toyota 86 Cup is probably going to be another 15k+ on top of that.

For ballpark, arrive and drive in Global MX5 Cup is like $125-150k/yr base. Double that for something like TCR class. Double that again when you get into the faster stuff.

Those are pretty simple cars compared to something that is down the path of tube framed front and rear.

Aaaand numbers are official now.

Toyota 86 Cup - $125k
Season Event Entry - $32k

There is more to this than meets the eye I think. At first I saw the vertical rails and thought this person replaced the entire back half of the truck with a Jon boat + trailer, and used the unwanted half of the boat as a convenient topper. I now wonder though if the middle of the boat is hinged and they've turned the bed of their truck into a foldable Jon boat transport + launching platform.

Darchangel

Yeah, I think they're using the whole thing as a launcher, and avoiding a trailer.
Meanwhile it can still be used as a light-duty pickup by just putting stuff in the boat!

I don't know if I dig it as much as the first generation, I think the blocky lines of that generation lent themselves better to being a truck, but this one will have the better interior (and engine options depending on how wacky you want to get).

Wonder how it would look with the challenger front clip
